Dave Martin was a Ymir boy. Sheila Ramsay was a Nelson girl.

While attending L.V. Rogers High School, a smitten Dave found out where Sheila’s locker was and somehow managed to secure the locker right beside hers. In Dave’s own words, this was the earliest form of stalking he knew of.

That bold move led to a first date, a proposal, and ultimately a wedding at the famed Lord Nelson Hotel — now the Adventure Hotel — on September 17, 1966.

Today, Dave and Sheila celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

Thank you both for leading the way and inspiring all of us. Together, you found a way to balance the demands of raising a family with the trials and tribulations of running a business. You saved the Hume Hotel and helped usher in a new era of hospitality in Nelson, creating a legacy that continues to this day.

Through it all, you have embodied perseverance, hard work, commitment, and the importance of staying connected through family values.

Sixty years of marriage. A lifetime of family, hard work, memories and love.
