At 9.30pm we have another new Radiophrenia radio commission: ‘Untitled’- a found recording, reconstructed, and edited by Hunda Sound with Paul Brennen.

Originated by Luke Sutherland, Hunda Sound’s current primary focus is in creating art - often through improvisation, with strong entropic elements - birthed from interactions between the expressive impulse and the geography, psychogeography, history, social memory, and mythology of rural Perthshire.

“Back in 2022, I bought an old Nokia from a pawn shop in Perth with a view to making some glitchy bit-crushed melodies. Before long, I realised that far from having been wiped clean, the phone was still home to a stack of voice notes. I was sufficiently unsettled by them to take them to the police who began an investigation. Weeks later, they came back to me with the news that they’d uncovered nothing of note and suggested I’d been taken in by a hoaxer, “arts poseur” or “arts-based drug-user”. Quite possible. Then again, this is Perthshire: things happen here.

Enter Radiophrenia, the ideal platform to air the recordings in all their liminal strangeness and perhaps an opportunity to connect with someone able to shed more light on the mystery.”

Featuring actor Paul Brennen, Untitled is Hunda Sound’s reconstruction of the Nokia voice notes based entirely on the original recordings and incorporating elements of their audio. Hoax? Fugue? Burnout? Assumption? If nothing else, these clips are another single strand in the manifold weave of Perthshire’s mythico-history.

@radiophreniaglasgow broadcasts for their 2026 edition will start at midnight tomorrow and continue, 24 hours a day, till midnight on the 20th of September.

I’m delighted to say that I’ve got a half-hour piece in the schedule due to go out at 21:30 on the 17th, with a repeat at 22:00 on the 19th. Put together in collaboration with @brennenp with contributions from @esztermars it’s a reconstruction of a series of increasingly hallucinatory voice notes found on a second-hand mobile phone, apparently recorded by someone lost in Perthshire forestland.

Moving forward with @improvbass and I's new album featuring @semay.wu, @hundasound, @rfa_1.5, and @peternicholsonmusic and Una and I.

TLDR:

Last year Una and I went into @glowormrecording to record the fabulous humans (and) string players named above performing collective improvisations based around a short list of strategies.

One of those was to use fragments of text we came up with some 13 years ago as prompts for improvisation.

Each of the string players selected two prompts for a short, 5 minute improvisation.

This is an extract from the musical result of @semay.wu 's selection, prompted by the words 'magnetic' and 'bubble' processed through Sheep, a granular processor for the @musicthingmodular Woskshop System programmed by @dessertplanet_ .

I hope you all enjoy it, and look forward to sharing more behind the scenes vibes of the record as it progresses!

I am pleased to share that from next week I will be an artist in residency at the Salisbury Centre, working alongside an incredible team of collaborators: Jennifer Steel, Luke Sutherland, Rasa Kazenaite, Marion Geoffray, Natalya McDonalds, and Lucas Chih-Peng Kao. Together, we are involved in the ‘Echoes of Land’ project during its Research and Development phase, focusing on eco-performance making and outdoor creative education that promote ecological awareness and a deeper connection with nature.
On this occasion, I would like to offer two Lab sessions:
“Echoes of Land Project |Lab”
Thursdays
25th September and
2nd October
11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
@ The Salisbury Centre (GARDEN/Studio)
2 Salisbury Rd, EH16 5AB

The focus of these two sessions is on place-responsive movement practice. During these sessions, we will experiment with ideas and scores for space-responsive performance-making and creative learning, specifically dedicated to children and young adults.
These sessions are open to both professionals and community members who are passionate about performing arts and committed to raising environmental awareness and addressing climate change.

~ Please wear comfortable clothes and layers (including waterproof ones, something we don’t mind if it will get a little muddy) to adapt to the possible changes in weather. If the weather becomes disruptive, we can use the indoor space (Studio). Feel free to bring your water, snacks, and a notebook if you’d like to make notes or draw during the session.
