A random account recommended the chicken dish and salted egg yolk shrimp from Hai Shang. They were right on the dot! 🔥

📍Hai Shang - 2991 Pembina Hwy

Highly recommend the below dishes:
- Chilled Chicken with Ginger Green Onion Soy Sauce 🐔 (Whole but you can order half)
- Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp 🍤 the shrimp were crispy and big. Sauce was saucy enough.
- Salted Fish Fried Rice 🐠 You can taste the charr which we love!

What’s your favorite dish from Hai Shang?

Everything else was good!The only thing I didn’t like was their sweet and sour pork because it wasn’t crispy, it was on the soggy side.

Reservations are a must. This place is small but packed. ⭐️

Friday food dump from this past month or so 🍽️:

@sargent.tacoshop for their Lengua Tacos with fried cheese and avocado. The habanero sauce is everything 😍 spicy but adds more flavour to the tacos. The lengua (cow tongue) also was very tender.

Nhu Quynh for theie Fried Rice with Roti Chicken (Com Chien Ga Roti) via take out. Someone recommended me this and I haven’t had this in years!!! Forgot how simple yet so good this dish is. 😂 Their chicken is well seasoned, I think there is some 5 spice in it.

@kyubochi for their ‘Laksa’. It has a rich coconut broth, chicken and bamboo shoots . Squeeze the lime in there 🍋‍🟩 and it just wraps up all the flavours! One of my go-to when I am craving something creamy and rich.

@tallgrassprairiebakery for their Cinnamon Bun & Savoury Bread Square. The Savoury Bread Squares are so good - filled with cheese and veggies. It’s sort of like a pizza without the tomato sauce. Go in the mornings to get this at @theforkswinnipeg!

@mystellas for breakfast. We ordered a Maple French Toast to share. While I had the Tofu Scramble as my main and my friend has Mexican style Breakfast. Stella’s will always be a Winnipeg breakfast staple. 🍳

This featured chanterelle pappardelle pasta from @sottobracciowpg was so good! 😍

📍Sottobraccio - 160 Osborne St.

What we ordered:
- Featured pasta: Chanterelle Pappardelle Hazelnut Pasta is a must! The texture on this pappardelle was so perfect! Slightly al dente and had that bite.
- Prosciutto Ricotta Honey Almond Toast, also very good! Loaded with proscuitto. 🔥
- Tuna Crudo, my friend liked this one. It was fresh and had a lil kick. Personally, I like my crudos on the sweeter side when it comes to the sauce.
- Broccolini with garlic confit is yummy. Love that it had some char to it.
- Cioppino 🐟 Sea Bass with shrimp, mussels and clams. Really like this one, the sea bass was nice and crispy and balances well the sauce.
- Not pictured, dirty martini 🍸 love that they upgraded their martini glasses.

My friend wanted to try Sottobraccio, so like any good friend you say YES! 🙂‍↔️ If I’m being honest my last visit (end of July) when they launch this current menu needed a lot of tweaks and found it overly seasoned.. I’m glad to say they improved so much this time around and everything was on point. 😌

FYI - I do not post every restaurant visit and I wanted to note that I always think it’s important to give restaurants honest constructive feedback. Sometimes restaurants just need a little time to tweak things and find their sweet spot and when they listen and improve.. I think that’s worth acknowledging that.

Changing things up a bit, tried Southland Restaurant for dinner. 🇨🇳

📍Southland Restaurant - 2855 Pembina Hwy

What we ordered:
- 🐔 Steamed Chicken with Green Onion and Ginger sauce. It’s served cold and you know when the chicken is good when it has a little gelatinous layer in between the skin and meat. It was moist and juicy. I would come back for this esp if you’re craving Haianese chicken (without the rice).
- Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp, this was good but the sauce is more on the drier side which was change from the usual. My friend likes this dish saucy, so if you’re like him
- Gai Lan, got to have some sort of veggie dish. Can’t go wrong with Gai Lan
- Beef Stew with Tofu, good flavour but meat was a bit too much on the fatty side for my liking.
- Fish Maw Soup, I did not like how the fish maw was in tiny pieces like that so that threw me off LOL.
- Forgot to take a picture, but they make a good salted fish fried rice. Not too oily and good ratio with salted fish/chicken.

⭐️ Southland has a really good bun thats called ‘Taro Snow Bun’. It was sold out by the time I went 🥲 but highly recommend that. You need to usually get it during the day since this spot is popular for dim sum.

I know a lot of people eat at Southland, what is your usual order? 👀

Anyone else remember the Campino candy back in the late 90’s/Y2K era? Well @solerawpg really brought back those memories with their latest cocktail. 😍

What we ordered:
- Cinq a Sept Cocktail (very wine heavy in flavours)
- The Campino Cocktail (a must) if you like sweets
- Good Soup Cocktail which is their play on a Pho cocktail. Interesting but fun. More the sour side!
- Grilled Octopus 🐙 I liked it with Tzaziki but def would prefer it more charred.
- Scallop Crudo 🔥
- Beef Carpaccio 😍
- Dulce de Leche cake if i heard correctly. So fluffy and moist! Really enjoyed the cake here. Thank you Robbie! 🥳

Personally I think it’s of the best spots for cocktails and bites in Winnipeg. Food menu is @tabularasawpg, cocktail menu is @solerawpg which are both always being updatedz

Reservations are highly recommended since it’s a cozy little spot.

I love a savoury pastry and @gatowpg always does a good one. 🥐 Their mushroom croissant use to be my go-to but it’s off the menu for now. This time I got their Breakfast Croissant which is filled with a cheesy-ish potato filling and topped with perfectly seasoned potatoes. 😍

I also saw that they have these cinnamon cronut sticks which I also devoured. Love the bite size pieces and peeling back the layers on it. LOL Both of these are surprisingly vegan as well. 🌱

Mi Kho Dac Biet aka Vietnamese Dry Noodle + Che (dessert) from Nhu Quynh for lunch. 😋

📍Nhu Quynh - 609 Ellice Ave.

First time trying Mi Kho (Size Small for reference)here, would definitely get it again! It’s loaded. Chewy egg noodles with sliced pork, barbecue pork, pork ball, squid, shrimps, imitation crab meat, bean sprouts, and crunchy crepe, served with soup on the side.

Glad the egg noodles were nice and chewy - I hate it when its too soft. Usually if it’s a darker color like this, the egg noodles have more chew to it LOL not sure if that’s a thing or not but just my observations.

Also order Che Suong Sa Hat Luu which is a Vietnamese dessert. It has sweet mung beans, jelly, red jelly water chestnut, coconut milk and crushed ice. Also yummy!

So sad summer is coming to an end 😭 So while it’s warm and they still have their summer menu, you must visit @theroostwpg ✨

📍The Roost - 651 Corydon Ave.

Cozy little rooftop patio vibes located Corydon with one of the best cocktails. They always have the cutest hand drawn menus and fun drink names. How could you not come here? 😍

Puff the Magic Dragon and Matcha Martini were the group’s fave drinks. ❤️

This is my second time going to @tacosandtequilawinnipeg. and it was so much fun! 🌮

I finally got to see @fatjoe & @tip! It brings me back to the 2000s, the best era for music and everything else. 🥹 The @kyugrill birria tacos were saving me after one too many shots.

VIP gets you 3 margaritas (or drinks) and a flight of tacos. The event was very organized. Just the line up for food was a bit long.
