Welcome to the MHW Team, Hunter Knoll (@hunterknoll)! Based in Bellingham, WA, Hunter hails from Hood River, OR, where he honed his skills as an athlete in the Columbia River Gorge. A ripping boarder with a sunny disposition even on the stormiest days (maybe especially on the stormiest days), Hunter has earned local community status at Mt. Baker, always making the most of the mountain’s renowned PNW snowpack. Catch him staying low at the Legendary Banked Slalom at Mt. Baker this February or in a garage near you carefully tuning his board quiver. Until then, help us celebrate Hunter joining the MHW Athlete Team.

The Baldface Risk Maturity course is not just a class, but a philosophy of never-ending education in mountain and backcountry safety. Last winter, MHW Athletes @hunterknoll and @backcountrybryce participated to learn intensive avalanche and backcountry safety training.

"The chance to go to Baldface alone feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity. When combined with the knowledge that was shared and the people we got to connect with, it was truly a special experience," Hunter reflects.

Both wearing the the Mythogen™ GORE-TEX PRO Kit, Hunter and Bryce studied and rode through the Columbia Mountains, participating in a Wilderness First Aid course and one-of-a-kind avalanche discussions with professional snowboarders, snowboard guides, and seasoned avalanche professionals.

"Digging pits and doing rescue scenarios, Hunter and I were rolling all through the snow in our kits and didn’t need to dry anything! From beacon loops to ankle cinching, full seat zip to venting neck guard, Mythogen will never let me down," Bryce shares.

"Going to Baldface for Risk Maturity with Hunter was surreal. The crossroad of all this knowledge really reinvigorated me about stepping out in backcountry terrain and I’ve already put some of the tricks I learned into practice at home," says Bryce.

@hunterknoll didn’t have your typical snowboarder’s upbringing. As a child, he spent winters on the beach being homeschooled with his siblings in Baja, Mexico. Now, though, Hunter spends his winters at Mt Baker and beyond, bringing his freestyle roots to big mountain terrain in AK and Japan.
