WORLD’S BEST ROASTERS
Global Coffee Awards 2026

Grateful to OUR TEAM —
we push, we argue, we land it.
And yes, we do celebrate.

And to THE PRODUCERS —
for giving us more than you have to.
Lots you shape. Your thinking. Your call.

And to ALL OF YOU here in VILNIUS — and beyond — 27 years of mornings with our cup in hand. That’s what we stand on.

Appreciate the recognition. And the stage.
Means more than we’ll say out loud.

Two Gesha arabicas from HACIENDA COPEY, Costa Rica. An exceptional example of Costa Rican Honey processing at its finest. ITADAKI GARDEN — traditional and MIRAN GARDEN — anaerobic honey. We hope you'll find as much pleasure in them as we do.

MIRAN. Remarkably sweet, exceptionally clean, with a round, almost broth-like texture that fills the entire mouth without ever feeling heavy. The mouthfeel is extraordinary. Delicate Gesha florals come through quietly: nectar, white blossoms, iris, white tulips, with a gentle suggestion of peach. There is something of a sweet sake in its sweetness and texture, a subtle umami quality that gives the cup another dimension. Calm, composed and beautifully precise.

ITADAKI. Mandarin, nectarine and crisp red apple lead the cup, with bergamot adding a bright, aromatic lift. White grape sweetness runs throughout. Bright and clean, with a delicate, rounded mouthfeel that brings to mind rice pudding. Balanced, transparent and beautifully composed. A natural match for sweet, delicate desserts, like Pavlova.

Some people change the course of an industry. Mr. HIDETAKA HAYASHI is one of them. He was there at the beginning of CUP OF EXCELLENCE, one of the people who created the standards by which exceptional coffee is judged. They built trust in quality, and gave coffee producers a fairer chance to be recognised and paid for their work. Those principles still matter today.

In 2015, Mr. Hayashi came to Vilnius to meet Vytautas. For a small coffee roaster in Lithuania, having someone of his calibre come all that way, sit down and talk coffee with us was a big deal. The kind of meeting that stays with you for life.

Eleven years later, Vytautas meets him again in Tokyo, where Mr. Hayashi is being honoured by the ALLIANCE FOR COFFEE EXCELLENCE as one of its first VISIONARIES OF EXCELLENCE.

Some people become part of your compass.

Some coffees are exciting because they're unusual. Others because they're exceptionally good. HACIENDA COPEY is firmly in the second camp. High in the mountains of Tarrazú, COSTA RICA, this Japanese-run farm has built its reputation on patience, precision and a lot of hard work. And the coffee speaks for itself.
Last year, we won a medal with their Catuai Amarillo at the Global Coffee Awards European Tour. This season, we're back with two Honey-processed Geshas: ITADAKI GARDEN GESHA and MIRAN GARDEN GESHA. Two different expressions of the same farm. Both among our blue chips of the season. Coffees we're genuinely happy to share with you, time and again.

We're sharing @hacienda_copey coffees in Vilnius, while @kratulis is sharing stories with the producers in Tokyo SCAJ event. Coffee takes us places. by @huracancoffee

🌍 How can roasters master new markets?

Becoming a genuinely respected roaster in your own city takes years, so it takes even longer to achieve international recognition.

Real differentiation comes from developing a distinct point of view, not simply meeting expectations others have already set.

🏆🌍 How do you earn an international reputation in specialty coffee?

Standing out in specialty coffee used to mean gaining a foothold in your own city or country. But even becoming a great roaster in your own market takes far longer than most people expect.

Today, with the rise of ecommerce in an increasingly global world, roasters compete for attention across borders. A strong reputation at home, however, doesn’t automatically travel abroad.

Light roast isn’t a virtue. Dark roast isn’t a crime. Good roasting is less about colour and more about judgement. What does this particular coffee need? What do you want to keep? What do you want to bring forward? How far can you take it before the roast starts speaking louder than the coffee? A good roaster can give you what you expect. A more interesting one might not. Because roasting is also interpretation. There’s room for judgement, imagination, even a little stubbornness. Clarity, sweetness, structure. The coffee first, the roast second. Not neutral. Not fashionable. Just deliberate. You don’t have to agree with the roast. But look for the idea behind it. by @huracancoffee
