Uncut, unedited, raw footage of clarification for a high school hurdler struggling with the 2 step drill.

To be honest I have never ever done a 2 step drill in my entire coaching career but the kids helped me spread my wings.

Set up:
1️⃣ mark 15 baby steps between 5-10 hurdles

2️⃣ split the hurdles between 2 lanes in a alternating fashion similar to chess board

3️⃣ set hurdles at desired height. (Start low and progress to higher height)

4️⃣ start drilling. 3-4x trail, lead, middle.

I have come to like this drill because it’s less time consuming and helps athletes get extremely comfortable with using the opposite leg. I would recommend drilling individual legs before installing a 2 step drill but it’s just my suggestion.

If anyone has a better method I’m open to hearing about it. Can always learn better or more!

Outdoor Season Loading…

Got loose today with some hurdle rhythm + endurance work.

Too many athletes only practice hurdles at race spacing… but races are chaotic. You need rhythm and adaptability.

Workout:

Wicket Shuttle Hurdles
3x4H (3min recovery)

8min rest

Shuttle Hurdles
(3” shorter than race height)
3x3H (3min recovery)

We jammed the spacing on purpose.

Why?

Because great hurdlers don’t just run the pattern…
they master the rhythm.

And a rule in our group is…….

Never run practice hurdles at regular spacing. NEVER. 😂

I love opportunities like this! Full circle moment.……. I coached @paisleycole02 older sisters @emmalyncole and @sierra.cole before I moved to the big city. Now I have the opportunity to coach the youngest sibling of the Cole Crew when I visit home.

This season, I watched an athlete choose the hard road. Not for glory, not for praise, but for the pursuit of excellence itself. Since the fall, he trained with discipline, intensity, and focus knowing that everything would come down to one moment in late May.

And when that moment came, he didn’t just show up.
He made history!

36.00 in the 300 hurdles! A new 4A Washington State Meet Record!

But here’s the thing: the record is just a byproduct.

He didn’t train for the applause. He trained because he chose to.
Because he believed in sharpening every edge, mastering every step, and honoring the work even when no one was watching.

That’s what makes this special. That’s what makes him special.

Thanks for reminding me that the process is the prize:
You didn’t just run fast you ran fast fast! Lol

The standard is the standard!

Washington’s best in the 110m hurdles, 2023 @altahreke and 2024 @boogy_33 State Champs putting in the work. Excellence isn’t given, it’s earned.
