Happy Friday! Hope everyone is slowing up the pace as they head into the weekend for some fun and relaxation.

I have been working on getting back into a flow with bottle making. The pace/process for these seems a bit chaotic… but although these objects seem fast and loose from outside the bench, in reality they are controlled and meticulous. Moments of intense heat and movement are followed by deep breaths and focused planning at the G-Hole.

I fell in love with this type of glass blowing very early on and was fortunate to be able to continue honing this discipline for most of my professional career. The past two years has not allowed me much time to practice or make the things I truly want to make, but I’m determined to alter this trajectory. Cheers to the homestretch of ‘26 - Sights set on ‘27. taken in Huron Street Studios by @ryanthompsonglass

Pull’d some moves out of the vault w/ @rfpglass today. I miss doing these little decorative embellishments. My style of glassblowing definitely leans towards “fast & loose” but once the bottle is complete it’s fun to slow down and focus on a few small details and soak in a little bit of relaxing before the process starts again. Want some bottles? Dots? No dots? Blue? Doesn’t matter. Gimme a shout, I love making these things. by @ryanthompsonglass

Bottles —> Tacos —> Bottles.

One of the many things I love about a glass shop is there are always multiple was to get some grub cook’d up on the quick. #Diezmillo tacos are a shop fav. Unfortunately hold the cilantro these days. That bottle and other beautiful collectible design objects available in the gallery @huron.street.studios, come by to snag a stunning piece to make your favorite space pop, or pick one up for an unforgettable gift. Here’s one for the algorithm🙃

Hi y’all! My name is Ryan Thompson and I’m a glass maker. Oh! And this is my cat Agatha, short for Concrete.

I found glass as a 3rd year student @officialbgsu, and after a brief whirlwind of questionable decisions, I switched my major, called myself a Glassblower (bold) and started my professional career @firenation.gallery & @toledomuseum in Toledo, OH. Fast forward the better part of a decade and I had relocated to Detroit and began running the glass shop @thehenryford. This position allowed me to spend a lot of time at the bench, honing my skills and developing a voice in the ancient goo.

In 2022 I was invited to apply to the @netflix reality show @blownawayseries. After some hemming and hawing, and a very cringy basement bar audition tape I was accepted as a contestant and shipped out to Canada (great place, would recommend). That experience was wild, I had a lot of fun and got super stressed out. TV ain’t for the faint of heart and creating art with a camera in your face and a timer running out is not my preferred environment. Regardless I am thankful for that opportunity and honored to have gone through that train wreck with such an amazing group of glass blowers.

Most recently I moved back to Toledo and took over Gathered Glass, gave it a facelift and renamed it @huron.street.studios. The studio has been a roller coaster, lots of fun and lots of heartache but I am grateful for this insane opportunity.

My work ranges from functional, collectible design, to one of kind sculptural objects and lighting. We also do glass blowing experiences, team building events AND date nights 😉. Head over to @huron.street.studios and see what we have available, spots are filling up fast and I’m sure your team, family or significant other would love the opportunity to blow glass with a washed up reality TV contestant with a weird cat. If you made this far thanks for reading, following and supporting. See y’all in the hotshop. taken in Huron Street Studios by @ryanthompsonglass

After my premature celebration of turning the furnace on, I decided to stay quiet until that lil baby was nice and hot and staying that way. (Knocks on wood) I think we made it. She’s been hot for two weeks - performing as expected - and melting premium goo… so good to be back. @rfpglass and I have been hustling to catch up on commissions, orders and everything else that has piled up while we focused on powering up the heart of our glass shop.

As we continue to get back into the swing of blowing glass - be sure to check out @huron.street.studios on Facebook and Instagram to see what workshops we are offering and whatever awesome stuff we got on the end of the stick that week.

Big thanks to everyone in the glass community shared their knowledge, time and experiences to help us get to our goal.🖤🖤🖤 taken in Huron Street Studios by @ryanthompsonglass
