a tribute post for the king of tribute posts.

for a millisecond i thought about not posting anything about my brother’s passing, but the man loved a good shoutout, and there’s no occasion more momentous than celebrating a life lived to the fullest. i owe him this many times over.

jacob is and will always be the all-time #1 Huzz Head, and it’s not even close. he took me to my first concerts (strokes’ room on fire tour!). he had me playing my first “shows” at events he put on when i was in high school and he was freshly out of college. my SIL’s summer solstice parties, cuppies and jo birthdays, the rehearsal dinner for his wedding, etc. he traveled to see us on tour for big festival stops and in our favorite cities, so we could feel a little proud about ourselves to somebody we actually knew.

He constantly asked and texted me for insight into our lyrics and dove into them in a way nobody else does, including grilling me about the new record. i’m grateful he got to listen to it and sit with it for awhile, because it’s mostly about him. spoiler: he says it’s great and a little bit slower, but in a good way, lol.

he made me feel smart and important and inspired. he helped me believe in myself, not only because he hyped me up to my face, to all of his friends, and to the internet, but because i think he also knew making music was a form of deep fulfillment to me and that it helped me connect with people. without that constant feedback, my natural pragmatism probably would have won out and i’d never have quit my old job.

i’m a classic middle child, fully equipped with the pros and cons that often characterize that designation, and as the older brother, he constantly worked (subtly!) to bust me out of my shell and bring me into the fold. not saying i lacked confidence, but he helped me see it’s cool to pipe up and participate (even at the risk of sounding foolish), to seek the substance in everyone, and to spend some time with people outside your own chosen circles. OKC, we’re ringing in the new year at @towertheatreokc tonight! Come celebrate / bury 2K25 with us.

Had our first band ski trip (thanks @treefortfest), first band hot springs, first band almost wreck, first tour skipping Texas, first Texas only tour, first year missing San Diego 😢, first tour and collab w our boy @jw__francis , second tour w @jaguar__sun, list goes on. Still working on album 5 - we’ll see yall next summer 🌞 by @husbandsokc
