One of my new favorite things to do on a session? Hand the camera over to the kiddos.

I love it for a lot of reasons. I want them to understand what I’m actually doing behind this big camera. They get to take their own pictures, and they get to use their hands and make something. I grew up in a home that made a lot of room for creativity, and I want to give that same chance to the little ones I get to photograph.

Sweet Maggie (soon to be a big sister!) took this job very seriously. She photographed her mama and directed the whole thing: “Flip your hair. Hands on your hips. Now smile!” It was so fun to watch her find her voice behind the lens..

I think her momma loved it too ;)

This sweet family waited and hoped for so many years. Like many of us, they’ve experienced the highs and the lows, and I’m so glad they’re living their best life right now with two precious gifts to treasure for a lifetime.

I’ve prayed for them often, so getting to celebrate baby Arden’s first birthday with them meant the world to me.

We kept it simple outside with butterflies and balloons, then let Arden do her thing. She explored, played, and soaked up every minute with momma and big brother Roan. 🦋🎈

What a blessing this family is, indeed. Thank you for trusting me to capture such a special milestone!

Some babies are prayed for long before they arrive. This little one is one of them.

I had the sweetest time with my dear friend Lize and her family as they wait to meet baby Vander, the one who will make their family complete. We planned for golden hour, but the weather had other ideas.. and honestly, the soft blue hour felt like it was meant to be for their baby boy.

This one’s a little close to home.. the veterinary chiropractor is my husband, Tim, who just launched his own practice, Hoof and Hound Veterinary Chiropractic, here in East Tennessee! 🐾

His model for the session? Our pup Tripp. Nothing staged here. I photographed a real adjustment so we could show some of the common hand placements Tim uses when working with dogs, along with the calm, gentle care behind every one. Getting to watch Tripp settle in and trust him through the whole thing was pretty special from behind the camera.

Tim works with large and small animals alike, so if you’ve got a dog, a kennel, or a barn full of four-legged family who could use some extra care, I’d love for you to get to know him. You’ll find Hoof and Hound tagged in these photos.

Our walls are full of faces.. and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve printed (and reprinted!) a lot of oversized photos over the years, and I get asked all the time where I order. So I put together my honest comparison of Smallwoods and Walgreens: what I love about each, what I’d skip, and how to save a little money along the way.

Spoiler: I’m a sucker for a framed canvas. 🖼️

But my real ask? Get those photos off your phone. Print them, hang them, make the photo book, gift them to someone you love. Your everyday moments deserve a spot on the wall.

Getting mini session ready with Tripp, dapper scarf and all 🍂

Pets are welcome at any of my sessions! Family sessions, minis, milestones, portraits, you name it. If your pup is part of your story, they belong in the photos too. Dress them up in a festive bandana, a scarf or a sweet collar, bring their favorite treats and I’ll take care of the rest.

✨ Bookings are officially open for my Kingsport fall minis!

I’ll be spending two days at a private mini farm in Kingsport, with a field and a cozy barn to work with. It’s the kind of setting that makes it easy to relax, laugh a little, and just be yourselves.. which is exactly what I love to capture.

🗓️ Friday, November 27

That second date is the day after Thanksgiving, so if you’ve got family coming in from out of town, it’s the perfect chance to get everyone together in one spot (and in one photo!) while they’re here. 
Each session is 20 minutes and starts at $175. If you’d like more time or more images, there are Mini + Full Gallery and Extended Mini options too. 
Families, couples, friends, and even your four-legged crew are all welcome. Wear what feels like you, then play it up a little so it feels special. 
Spots are limited, so if you’ve been thinking about it, now’s a great time to grab yours.

I’ve been trying to find the words for this one for a bit… Hux and Mae Photo was voted Best Photographer AND Best New Business in the greater Knoxville area in the 2026 Knox Stars Community’s Choice Awards.

About 15 months ago, I opened a box holding a camera I had no idea how to operate. I’d spent almost two decades art directing photoshoots, always dreaming of picking up the camera myself but too intimidated to try. Then my two littles came along and gave me a kind of courage I didn’t know I had. 
I know there are so many talented photographers here in East Tennessee, and by no means do I consider myself the best. But I am so happy to serve, and I’ll always do my very best to capture exactly what you’re hoping for, and then some. 
Thank you to every single person who voted, and to whoever nominated me (I still don’t know who you are!). I love getting to do this for you. 
Hux and Mae is a small, passion project, and I’d be honored to capture this season of your story. Let’s chat and find a date.

50 years in the making. 💍

Monty and Gillisa were high school sweethearts who got separated by life, healed, grew, raised families of their own.. and then reconnected out of nowhere with a simple “hi” on Facebook.

This September they finally said I do at The Roosevelt Lodge in Gatlinburg, and let me tell you, the day tried to throw everything at them. Rain, a delayed ceremony, lost catering, misplaced soundtracks, and yes.. a mama bear and her three cubs raiding a guest’s car in the parking lot right before the ceremony began. 
But none of it mattered. Right as Gillisa stepped outside, the clouds parted and the sun came through like it had been waiting for her too. “Love is patient” isn’t just a line from 1 Corinthians 13.. it’s the whole shape of this couple’s story, fifty years and counting.
Every person in that room was relishing in the true love on display. It was a God-made moment in every way, one for the books and one to inspire us all. 
Getting to capture two people who waited five decades to marry each other is a moment I won’t forget. Congrats and best wishes, Mr. & Mrs. McAmis.. your love story is proof it’s never too late.
