This was a shot I had been planning for months, waiting for the alignment of the Milky Way core with the unique rock formations and landscapes of Lake Tahoe.

It was 130 AM one night. I saw clear skies, a new moon, and packed my equipment. It was a bit difficult polar aligning my tracker with the North Star due to all the rocks and uneven surfaces at Sand Harbor. Super stoked with how it came out. 💫 🌟 🌌

Lake Malawi has some dark skies! 💫 🌌 ⭐️

Had to hire a guy with a boat to get into the national park since it was technically closed after 6 PM 🫪

Malawi is country #140 for me! ❤️‍🔥

The night turned out to be a bit of a challenge, with clouds rolling in shortly after sunset. But with enough patience, I managed to capture these shots 🥹

Two satellite galaxies (Large and Small Magellanic Clouds) over a classic Lesotho hut 🛖🥹

Always a pleasure to be able to photograph these “mini galaxies” when I’m in the Southern Hemisphere. To the untrained eye, it’s easy to confuse them as clouds at first. I speak from experience 😅

Darkest skies I’ve ever been in! I’ve never seen the Milky Way look the way it did with my eyes 😱 💫

I wasn’t planning on doing any night photography since the forecast was calling for clouds, but we took advantage of a brief cloud “break” and made the most of it. 😄 💫

Andromeda Galaxy (M31), one of our closest cosmic neighbors at ~2.5 million light-years away. You’re looking at light that left this massive galaxy 2.5 million years ago. 🌌

Fun fact: It is estimated to contain about 1 trillion stars and spans roughly double the diameter of our own Milky Way. If you’re ever out stargazing with me, I can point it out to you—it’s actually bright enough to see with the naked eye under a dark sky 💫 😱

I used about 26 hours of data (> 1,000 90 second subs) to produce this image. I would’ve done more, but stacking more would’ve caused my computer to crash 😄

The Harvest full moon in full effect last night 🌙💫

It’s been a while since I did lunar photography. My astro processing skills since then has improved to where I can bring out the *subtle* colors of our nearest celestial neighbor 🥹

The Orion and Running Man Nebula 🥹🥹 for this winter season 🥶 💫

The Orion Nebula holds the guiness world record as the brightest nebula in the night sky, and can be seen with the naked eye even from light polluted areas such as Los Angeles.

It is the closest massive star-forming region to Earth and is estimated to be about 1,300 light years away 😄

A church beneath the Milky Way 💫 🇸🇮

Cerkev Marije Kraljice Miru na Kureščku, Slovenia. 📍

The church was heavily damaged during WWII. Decades later, in 1989, France Špelič, who would later become a Catholic priest, experienced locutions and visions of the Virgin Mary, which he understood as a call to restore the church at this site.

Tonight, the restored church stands tall with the Milky Way descending behind it. Blessed to be able to drive here with my mom. Not a bad way to end the Milky Way season (for the Northern Hemisphere anyways 😌)
