Schrader cores alone should not be responsible for keeping refrigerant inside a system. Caps with an 0- ring and a tab of Nylog have never done me wrong.

Bend a little press a little...

It's nice to not have to pull out the torches and N2 rig sometimes. Bending where possible also cuts down on fittings.

Filter Thickness???

Thickness and depth are not the same!

Sure, the frame of the filter is 5" but there is not 5" worth of media that air flow must overcome. The media is simply pleated to a depth of 5". What this does is provide more surface area. When a filter has more surface area it reduces pressure drop, increases air flow across and captures more particulate.

I speak with Chris Howells on the HVAC Know It All Podcast about this, we also touch on @aprilaireco new TRIPure technology that includes a 12 month 3" filter and 6 month 1" filter.

High Efficiency Boiler...

I had the opportunity to check out the new @weil.mclain Simplicity Combi Boiler 199-C (199k BTUs). It has a turn down ratio of 10:1 which is great for efficiency and capacity control. This is a fire tube style stainless steel heat exchanger.

Thank you to J Kelly's Heating and Air Conditioning for the walk through. I will have more info soon on this boiler. by @hvacknowitall1

Heat Pump Loop...

In large high rise buildings water source heat pumps are used to heat/cool internal spaces. When the majority of the heat pumps are in heating mode, the heat pump absorbs heat from the building loop, dropping it's overall temp. Boilers are used to add heat back into the loop raising it back up to maintain approximately 80⁰F.

The boiler uses its own pump to overcome the boiler resistance. The building uses 4 - 100 HP pumps to move the loop water around the building which branches off to individual heat pumps.

For the manifold enthusiasts...

I tested out the @cpsproductsinc BlackMax BMD200 Digital Manifold for a few weeks and I just wanted to touch on a few features that we're previously mentioned.

I like to use the sight glass in the manifold when charging. I prefer to leave the sight glass half full so we're not sending a full column of liquid into the suction line.

The proper way...

After ensuring our cuts are straight we need to debur/chamfer the pipe end of system @ipexbyaliaxis 1738.

The Reed DEB4 Deburr/Chamfer tool puts a 15⁰F bevel on the end of the pipe. This prevents burrs from entering and also helps the pipe and fittings seat together as designed. A sharp edge can actually push cement off the side pulls when assembled, a chamfered end helps the pipe glide easier into place.
