IMPORTANT INFO... Hello HVBT Bookstores, and our bookstore lovers and supporters! Your 2026 maps are near! And there is a new design! Bookstores started placing orders about a month ago, and I have been hustling. The whole thing about carpal tunnel syndrome and spondyloarthritis though, is that chronic hand numbness and spinal diseases don't care what "hustle" means, so it's been a long ass 4 weeks of switching between hustle days and bedridden ones lol. Hundreds of maps and totes will be going out soon for 2026 just bear with me 🫶🏽

I've been getting messages from people interested in Indie Bookstore Day happenings for HVBT recently. I just want to remind everyone that "Hudson Valley Book Trail" is not a time-bound event. It is not a weekend book crawl, nor is it specifically for Independent Bookstore Day. It is a resource for *year-round* bookstore loving. This map is meant to be used on your own time, for your own 👣🚙 🚌🚂trail tracking travels📗. So look out for these new home-display-friendly maps in your local shop soon!

My peoples, the HVBT map is currently showcasing 73 stores across 10 counties, and they all have different open hours. It would need to be Indie Bookstore YEAR.
So Support Indie Bookstores on Indie Bookstore Day, and any other random day before and after.

👉🏽 Go to a specific county, and find a store you're interested in
👉🏽 Click their social media/websites to find out what events they are offering during Indie Bookstore weekend, and any other day.
👉🏽 Non locals, in a few weeks contact a store on the list you'd like to support to see if they can mail one out to you.

Updates are coming! 💚💙📚
2025's HVBT map included 56 stores! But with two counties being added back, and with a little more searching around Hudson Valley, there are now 72 on the directory. A website update, and new tote bag and map coming soon.

Get lost in a good book (trail)!

I’d like to take this time to introduce myself to everyone on the Hudson Valley Book Trail social media pages! But first, a brief excerpt from an email by Montgomery Book Exchange that was sent at the end of July, announcing the closure of his bookstore, and announcing the new management of his org, HVBT:

“With our new chapter, I am also turning over the management of the Hudson Valley Book Trail to my long time friend, book lover, and talented graphic designer—Jessica. Jessica has been the creative mind behind making sure all stores fit in an aesthetically pleasing and professional way on the totes & map over the last several years. Jessica will take over all social media and update the website. She will continue to work with Jay at Inquiring Minds on the book totes and hopefully everyone will want to work on a new map and passport for 2026!”

-Long time friend of Walter’s, and also fellow store owner, having owned and operated my craft studio business for nearly 6 years until 2021 right across our tiny street from his biz Montgomery Book Exchange.

-And a long time book reader/lover/collector!

It’s been a rough summer for Orson the Bookstore - leg amputation & ongoing chemotherapy and yet he still shows up to work…okay maybe 60% of the time. Next Saturday (9/12) we are celebrating the store’s 11th birthday and most importantly Orson’s 16th birthday! Black River Farm stand will be grilling FREE hot dogs and giving out free drinks with the purchase of a raffle ticket benefitting Orson’s vet bills; @cluckleberryhillfarm will have a pop up bakery of birthday treats; AND we will have a limited restock of Orson the Bookstore Cat tshirts from @jinx.remover . Gather your friends, hang out and stay awhile….no guarantee the birthday boy will make an appearance but fingers, eyes and ankles crossed 😻📚 taken in Braveheart Books by @hvbooktrail
