Lantern loves summer! ☀️🐾 And he’s hoping this is the season he finally finds his forever family!

At just 1.5 years old, this handsome Shepherd–Husky blend is smart, eager to learn, and ready for a fresh start with a family who understands large, active dogs. While Lantern can be a little shy at first, once he feels safe, his sweet personality begins to shine!

His dream home includes a secure, fenced yard where he can run, explore, and burn off some of that Husky energy, plus a family with the patience, guidance, and experience to help him continue building his confidence. Because he’s still learning his way through the world, Lantern is looking for a home with kids 16 and older. 🏡

The Dog Days of Summer with Polly! ☀️⛱️🐶

Polly is a 1-year-old Shepherd Terrier blend who is a very active pup with a sweet heart! She loves to run, chase balls, and toss her toys around.

Polly thrives with structure and guidance and would do best with an adopter who understands her breed mix and is ready to provide patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. With the right routine, she has so much potential to grow into a confident, well-rounded companion! 🤍

She’s looking for a home with a secure, fenced yard where she can safely burn off her energy, and a family with kids over 12 who can help support her training and boundaries.

If you’re an active family ready to invest time, structure, and love into a wonderful young pup, Polly might be the perfect dog for you. When you visit the Center, you won’t see Polly out in the front because she is nervous at first, but once she is comfortable, you will see her true personality shine through!

Meet Harry! Formerly known as Superman. Harry was renamed after the children’s book Harry the Dirty Dog, which his family says describes his personality perfectly! He LOVES dirt and mud puddles, but unlike the Harry in the book, he actually loves bath time, too.

Over the past year, Harry has been the best little dog and an amazing addition to his family. He loves joining them on hiking and camping trips, going on road trips, riding in the car, and, most of all, going on adventures with his people.

Harry is also one smart pup! He has already completed his puppy and intermediate training classes and is signed up for his advanced class next month. His family says he can sometimes be a little too smart for his own good, but they wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️ by @hwac

Today, Helen Woodward Animal Center hosted a @RememberMeThursday ceremony where employees, sponsors, board and committee members, and city official representatives joined us to commemorate what #RememberMeThursday is.

Together, we #ShineALight for all the rescue pets waiting to be adopted at shelters and rescues all over the world. These beautiful souls deserve better than to be waiting to be chosen, and spreading awareness on pet adoption will continue to help this mission.

Thank you to all of our Luminaries, influencers and animal lovers worldwide for shining a light on orphan pets today. We truly wouldn’t be able to make impact we made without all of you! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support!

Meet our Pet of the Week: Buzz! 💛

If you love playful kitties, Buzz is a dream come true! Helen Woodward Animal Center’s resident 5-month-old tuxedo kitty is a pro at putting a smile on your face with his lively personality. When you open the door to his cat condo, don’t be surprised if he immediately wants to climb all over you! In the meeting room, you’ll be treated to this little guy darting around playing with any and every toy available to him. Then, once he tires himself out, he’ll climb into your lap – or onto your chest – and fall into the coziest of cat naps!
