Replica ~ By the Fireplace by Maison Martin Margiela for Men and Women

I first heard of this scent from Yeosang, who allegedly wears it as a go-to; I find our preferences very similar so I had to try it. The notes in this perfume come out slowly. I was hit with a vanilla immediately— It was another two hours before I smelled the slight hint of fresh ginger. Ginger isn’t a note in this scent; what I was really looking for was a fresh, herby scent that smelled like burning wood. I was delighted that that note came through. I’m assuming it’s the first scent of cloves, which I associate with ginger because of my day-to-day cooking. It was delicious, it is delicious, especially combined with the pink pepper, chestnut, juniper, and vanilla.

As I write this, it still envelopes me in a warmth. The longer it stays, the hotter the scent gets. It’s not overwhelming, it’s like sitting next to a room heater that smells like slightly burning wood. I am inhaling heat, and I’m not sure how the perfumer achieved that, but they did and I find it excellent. Longevity was great, over 24 hours; I’m writing this the day after and I still smell the lingering heat and scent. The vanilla is a perfect blend to the warmth, I’ve never smelled anything like this. I wouldn’t buy a whole bottle of this, it is missing a fresh spice that it never achieves, but I can entirely understand why others love it.
