From intern to full-time staffer 🏛️

Two Rutgers–Newark students turned their summer internships in Washington, D.C., into full-time jobs. They were among a dozen students the Sheila Y. Oliver Center for Politics and Race in America supported this summer in congressional offices, federal agencies and think tanks.

Our Public Service Leadership Program covers stipends and housing so finances don’t decide who gets to serve. Hear from our students about why these roles matter and why it matters who holds them. 🎥

At the September American Political Science Association Annual Meeting, I received Honorable Mention for the 2026 Bryan Jackson Dissertation Research on Minority Politics Award - Urban and Local Politics Section. I look forward to sharing this work with the public upon completion. I thank the committee for recognizing the importance of this research on Black women elected officials in New Jersey.
