- hommage to @koutarou_ohkubo

I've been wanting to make one of these for ages. I've had several attempts, and it's still not quite there (and will remain un-named until I am happy!).

Copying an existing spatula has been a good way of developing skills and my spoke shave technique has improved a lot. I also learnt about the limits of the tools I use. Ōkubo-sensei uses a range of nankin kanna, whereas I have a couple of Marples spoke shaves, both with flat soles. They have got me most of the way, but I am now researching alternatives. I might even have a go at making my own.

- holly stirrer.

I have started to clear out my old stock of wood to make way for some fresh, green timber, and found a couple of pieces of holly. I hadn't enjoyed using it first time round; it carved like a flowery potato! I couldn't get a smooth finish to the bowl and just shelved what I hadn't used. This time I didn't bother with a bowl and most of the cuts are made with spoke shaves. Perhaps it's dried out a little too.

I have been developing my spoke shave technique following inspirational photos and videos from @koutarou_ohkubo. This stirrer turned out really well.

- feeling "left" out?

How about some left-handed stirrers? Following the natural fibre direction, one even has a twist in its tail.

The large one is cherry, the smaller is birch, and both are finished with food safe spoon wax.

- lime scoop.

Starting off as a spoon, a very large crack appeared along that black fault that wasn't visible from the outside when I started. It made things difficult, but perfect for dry ingredients!

- cherry stirring paddle.

A variation of the wok stirrer, with less curve and a thicker, shorter handle.

- apple spoon.

General purpose, for scooping, stirring, serving...

- birch spatula.

For general light cooking tasks. I'm still working on the "birch" icon, though!

- Hyaku means 100, and to celebrate my 100th post I have made my most unusual spoon so far.

Intended to be a wok stirrer, made from damson following the natural twist of the timber. It came out well, but I think that using it might require a special technique, as the angle of the handle and blade don't quite line up in the usual way!

Further 100-posts-day celebrations to follow.

- hommage à @koutarou_ohkubo

I've been admiring the form of this cooking spatula for a while and have been keen to have a go. Having spent an hour or three sharpening and reconditioning a spokeshave, I thought, "now's the time!"

It ended up more spoon-shaped than I had planned!

- scooping and stirring.

The wide scoop works well with seeds and Japanese green tea; the small stirrer is for sauces and more delicate cooking tasks.
