“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” – John Muir Set within a tranquil woodland, the Thinking Cube offers a meditative escape—a minimalist timber structure designed for a polymath, creator, and dreamer. Inspired by timeless geometry the essence of nature, this bespoke retreat becomes a vessel for deep thought and quiet creation. Reaching Forth The plan, deceptively simple, reveals a layered labyrinth within the microcosm of a cube, continually reorienting its occupant toward shifting vistas and new perspectives. The pinwheel layout establishes a dialogue with the surrounding forest, seamlessly integrating each element into its natural context. Cantilevered and suspended forms—such as the bridge walkway, the bathing core, and the open glazed screen—extend into the landscape, allowing the environment to inhabit the design. Meaning emerges through the interplay of tectonic precision and stereotomic solidity, with every detail contributing to a spatial experience of quiet resonance. #HHThinkingcube #ArchitectureMeetsNature #Minimalism #DesignAndPhilosophy #BuiltEmotion #CabinInTheWoods #CabinLife #CabinVibes #LogCabin #Forest #Solitude #Tectonics #GoldenRatio #ShouSugiBan #SustainableBuildingMaterials #LowCarbonLiving #BiophilicDesign by @hyde_architects
We are delighted to see Edge House featured by @ft_houseandhome and @financialtimes online and in print. Titled How to Design a Home in Collaboration with Nature, the piece reflects on a project shaped by exposure, memory, and the enduring relationship between architecture and landscape. Set on the Ceredigion coast, our multiple award winning @edgehouse.wales was conceived to work with its environment rather than against it. Anchored deep into rock, the house reaches out towards the horizon while responding carefully to weather, erosion, and the elemental force of the site. For us, this has always been a meaningful project. It speaks to technical resolution and resilience, but more so to a client’s long connection to this epic coastline. Thank you to @ft_houseandhome and @financialtimes for the thoughtful coverage. đŸ“· @mrtngrdnrphoto #HydeAndHyde #EdgeHouseHH #Archilovers #Costalliving by @hyde_architects
Introducing Casa da Vida, Algarve. A house of life, set into the hillside. Frames and layered surfaces hold authentic moments of a life. Two horizontal forms of concrete sit displaced in the slope. The left element marks the entrance beneath a deep overhang. The right cantilevers out towards the wider view, and Africa beyond. Underneath, a hidden world that gives over to water. Hot and cold. Steam off the stone plinth. A shower at the centre fin. A circular plunge pool, a massage room tucked to one side. Further out, a place for meditation, alone in the terrain. Somewhere to slow down and feel new again. The house is monolithic and confident. Board-marked concrete gives it weight and a horizontal rhythm. Timber is set into the mass to soften it. Travertine runs underfoot, laying out the grid the whole house is built on. Sea House, St Margaret’s Bay. A house for two mathematicians. Mid process studies, searching for an order between structure, symmetry and epic views of infinity. 1. Tectonic study 2. Studio Days: Black Swan House, Scotland, model study. How the building comes to rest on the bank of the dam had to feel right. As if just landed. by @hyde_architects
Casa da Vida, Faro, Portugal The living room sits below the garden, shaded by a deep concrete overhang that keeps the interior spaces cool. Timber shelving runs the length of one wall, carrying books, ceramics and objects gathered from life. #CasaDaVida #CasaDaVidaHH #InteriorArchitecture #Archilovers #HydeAndHyde by @hyde_architects
Nexus House in Oxfordshire, the central library is a place for 10,000 books, with the capacity to extend to 30,000. A stereotomic base of rammed concrete provides the foundation for a timber structure. It opens its tome like form to the cosmos. #NexusHouseHH #LibraryDesign #TectonicArchitecture #StereotomicArchitecture #BuiltMeaning by @hyde_architects
Sneak peek. A New woodland home for a family in Mid Sussex, north of Brighton. At the centre of the woodland stands an ancient oak. We discovered this tree was already growing when the American Constitution was being written and it will still be there after we are all long gone. So how should architecture converse when confronted with deep time? Our latest journal explores this thread and reveals what we found. House of Solitude sits alongside our current work along the South Coast, each project shaped by a different place and of course a different client that defines the story. Images: 1. Entry sequence and early plan studies, bowing to the presence of a very old tree. 2. Axis orientation diagram. Entry to Oak. 3. Research book: ‘The Hidden Life of Trees’. 4. Entry axis rotation study. 5. Plan development / embedded meaning. #HouseOfSolitudeHH #Sussex #WoodlandHouse #HydeAndHyde #Archilovers by @hyde_architects

New work, New York. We are heading across the Atlantic to begin looking at a new site in the Hudson Valley. More soon. #hydeandhydeNY by @hyde_architects
Black Swan House, low and dark against the water. 1. A pavilion set on a plinth, glazed end to end so light passes straight through. 2. Seen across the water, a timber screen draws the house down to a single element, a small boat resting at the bank. 3. On the ridge it settles into wild grasses. In black and white, only the essentials remain. #LowImpactArchitecture #BlackSwanHouseHH #Archilovers #PavilionArchitecture #HydeAndHyde by @hyde_architects
