2026 PHG Honors Best Remodel/Renovation: Mike Alexander, Hype Studio @hype__projects

Designed and built in 1947, this home underwent a comprehensive remodel and addition between 2024 and 2026, carefully preserving its historic facade while updating the interior to support contemporary living.

The interiors of our bathrooms at the larger of our two Agropoli Villas are intentionally vivid. Pulling colors from the olive trees of our historic site, the Mediterranean Ocean that laps our property line, and the beautiful colors of local readily available Italian materials; our vision was to create spaces that are memorable, marketable, and fun. After all, as well as being leased as a high end AirBnB, our site will also be home to a high end wedding venue for around 200 people. The kitchen and bedrooms are sophisticated and a little more refined as we all need moments of calm!! More to come later this week!! taken in Agropoli by @hype__projects

Such a productive and fun meeting with our wonderful client and the engineer/ build/ real estate team at the ‘Agropoli Ville’ project. Google Translate was used for most of it but we made it fun and lucrative. The quality of construction so far is AMAZING with some real artisans at work. Preparing documents to submit to City of Phoenix Historic Preservation for our Willo District remodel and addition. This home was noted in HP inventory back in the 80’s as having ‘no real architectural significance’ but, as we strip back clutter from the front elevation, add some simple detailing and landscape, a refined, elegant ranch home is revealed. Some study renderings for a new spec home in North Scottsdale. Far too many spec homes sacrifice design and quality for profit. Just like our private clients, we want to make sure the end buyers of this spec home get top value for what might be the largest investment of their lives, a responsibility we take very seriously. We’ve been doing a few more ADU’s recently for some great clients so, as we work on updating that section of our website, we’re posting a throwback to ‘ANYlot’ — a flexible ADU prototype designed for the City of Tempe’s ADU Competition.
Earlier this year, we explored a simple question: What if one ADU could adapt to almost any backyard?
The result is ANYlot—a modular accessory dwelling unit designed to respond to virtually any site configuration, solar orientation, and lot condition. Rather than forcing homeowners to fit a predetermined plan, the system adapts to the site.
Tensile fabric awnings create deep overhangs while a light scoop brings soft, filtered daylight into the living and bedroom spaces, reducing heat gain without sacrificing naturalt light. Durable, sustainable materials provide a high-performance envelope designed for Arizona’s extreme climate, while presenting as a unique, fun, and thoughtful form.
When positioned at the rear of a property, ANYlot takes advantage of Tempe’s ADU ordinances by utilizing a zero lot line, allowing the building itself to become the site’s perimeter wall—maximizing usable outdoor space while maintaining privacy.
Designed as 500 SF and 600 SF modules, the concept is inherently scalable and can be adapted to larger or smaller footprints as permitted by site coverage and local zoning.
A flexible system for changing lots, changing climates, and changing housing needs.

We have several new concepts underway right now including this exciting Willo Historic District addition and remodel. This frontage has no distinct heritage so we’re stripping back years of clutter and introducing an elegant, more refined street presence. The addition and remodel take a respectful nod at the neighborhoods historic character but through a modern lens and adapted for today’s living.
