60 years of Notting Hill Carnival ~

I sat down with @dazed to talk about Carnival, documenting it, and why I keep coming back to it year after year. The faces, the music, the madness, the moments in between and what it means to preserve something that has given so much to London and to Caribbean culture.

Thank you @nhcarnivalldn for the continuous work and effort that goes into upholding the traditions of Carnival and continuing to push the culture forward.

I’ve been photographing Carnival for years. It’s an event that means so much to me and is integral to who I am today. So many memories, connections and moments captured over the years. Carnival is, by far, my favourite weekend of the year.

This year, I really wanted to be in the streets and capture portraits of the faces that make Carnival what it is today. I felt it was important for each image to reflect the packed, hot energy you feel when you’re on the ground … Whilst also showing just how diverse and far-reaching Carnival has become, 60 years on from its origins.

A special thank you to everyone I met and photographed this year.
