This song has become a firm friend.

To sing and spin is a natural combination.

And to sing of the Bog, whilst working with a Bog Oak Spindle and Madder dyed rovings in the old oak woodland above our home, is a blessing that I am humbled and grateful to share here.

The song that I am singing in my own way is from the Album ‘Songs for Three Voices’ by @rufousnightjarband 🙏🕊️🌹

Made a pocket size back-strap weaving setup. Handheld rigid heddle and shuttle from local Dartmoor Oak. It's been great fun getting the hang of this. by @hyphal_node

Maerle algal nodule earrings on silver settings, snug on a bed of coastal-grassland foraged wool in a scallop shell case.

A kind of ode to the sequestering of calcium carbonate from sea water to form the coral-like seaweed and shell. A bit of bling for the merfolk. by @hyphal_node

A family of 14 Irish Bog Oak Goddess Pendants, created by the reverent hands of @hyphal_node are now available to meet their Wearers 🌹

‘These pendants evoke the prehistoric Venus figurines found all over the ancient world, and speak to a time when feminine magic was known and revered.

In gratitude to our cloven, oak and human kin ✨

The Opening Call for “We Are the Weavers” is tomorrow — Wednesday the 28th @ 6:30pm GMT / 10:30am PST

Over the next 8 weeks we will gather to spin, weave, sing and lavish in some of the lore & history of the sacred relationship between hand and land.

These kits feature tools & materials sourced in the Celtic isles and handcrafted by artisans with deep reverence for their Craft.

I’m celebrating the varied ways that Jules and I collaborated for our recent project working on the yarn and needles for Voices of Celtic Wisdom with @weaving_remembrance and @hannaleighsong ✨

We mainly worked on our part of the process separately, taking it in turns to look after our young son.

1. The ‘blank’ oak wood that Jules crafted with to make 250 beautiful and practical needle pendants alongside finished needles
2. Our skein production line (with serious expressions 😅) in the caravan for the 250 warp threads using wool from a Shepherdess in the North moor. We only did this part of the process together for 1 hour but it made it so much faster.
3. Skeins in the half light ready to be sent to their crafters.
4. The sound of many wooden needles clanking together was so satisfying!
5. Holding the warp yarn and letting all the hours spent processing wool last month sink into my bones.
6. I love the variation of grain and colour, each needle was made from Dartmoor oak and is entirely bespoke. by @hyphal_node

°•~ Bog Oak Goddesses ~•°

Goddess pendants hand carved from ancient bog Oak.

Made from the trees that graced the forests of the East Anglian Fenland Basin thousands of years ago, this wood fell into the wet, peaty bog soil, where it was preserved and slowly turned black by the mineral rich waters over millenia - until excavation in recent years.

These pendants evoke the prehistoric Venus figurines found all over the ancient world, and speak to a time when feminine magic was known and revered. These forms, carved from a material that has literally survived as a thread to that ancient past, hold the wearer in old knowing today.
