Losing weight was never really my problem.

I’ve done it more than once.

The problem was that every time I got lean, I treated it like I had reached the finish line. Eventually, old habits came back and so did the weight.

This time I wanted to do things differently.

Less unnecessary training volume. More focus on getting stronger and maintaining muscle. Walking more. Eating in a way I can actually sustain. And most importantly, not treating getting lean like another temporary challenge.

I’m still figuring things out as I go, but I think that’s been the biggest lesson for me:

Getting in shape is one skill. Staying in shape is another.

If you’re interested in seeing what my training actually looks like now, let me know in comment section ⬇️ by @hyungle

I wasn’t chasing youth. I was trying to become the best version of myself. Less chaos, more consistency. And over time, I started looking my best too. by @hyungle

From fit to fat, then fat to fit, and (hopefully) the last time of fat to fit

Six times. Every cut I ever ran had a start date and no end date, which is the entire reason there were six

Not claiming I’ve solved it. Just that this is the first round where I planned what happens after

In 2013 I dropped 30 pounds in 84 days for a bodybuilding show. I was proud of it for about a week.

Then I spent the next several years riding the same wave over and over. Cut hard, lose the plot, restart Monday. Nobody ever taught me what to do after the goal weight, so I just did the only thing I knew how to do: start over.

The thing that finally broke the cycle wasn’t a better program. It was realizing I’d never once asked whether I could still be doing this at 50.

I’m going to start sharing what I actually wish someone had told me back then.

First question for you: what’s the longest you’ve ever held a result before it slipped? Let me know below 👇

I’ve been a trainer for 10 years and I’ve been out of shape for most of them

People noticed. Some said it to my face, some said it where they thought I couldn’t hear, and a few said it in the comments of a video I was in. It stung more because of the job title. A trainer who can’t manage his own body is an easy target, and I gave people the target.

I don’t think that made me a bad coach. My athletes got better. But I know what it cost me, and I know I kept telling myself I’d fix it next year.

I told myself that through the entire 2020’s

2026 is the year I don’t say “I’ll fix it next year”

Swing session #1 → Swing session #7

I’ve spent years coaching athletes, but there’s something humbling about being a complete beginner again

Time to trust the process ⛳️

Thank you @swingbays_rowlandheights @dustinmillergolf for making a complete beginner feel welcomed in this community 🙌🙏 by @hyungle

Your body will always default to what it’s strongest at. But in sports, your opponent will force you to use what you’re weakest at

Whether you’re cutting, changing direction, attacking the basket, or reacting to a defender, being explosive to both your left and right makes you a more complete athlete

Don’t just train your strengths; train the side you avoid

1️⃣Build confidence
2️⃣Reduce limitations
3️⃣Become harder to defend
4️⃣Be an elite defender

I tell athletes that it’s okay to get frustrated when learning a new exercise or skill. Then I picked up a golf club…….

Turns out I forgot what it actually feels like; to be bad at something in front of people, with no shortcut and no reps banked

Every athlete I coach starts here. It’s only fitting that I start here too

Feel it first, then coach it. Every rep my athletes earn, I’ve already paid for 💪 by @hyungle

3 years of “I should learn golf.” 1 decision to actually start. “WHY NOT?”

2026 has been about doing uncomfortable things on purpose. And being a beginner again is making me a better coach. After 6 months of training like a gym bro, golf is exposing every athletic movement I stopped doing. The frustration, the awkward reps; now I can feel what my athletes feel.

You can’t coach the struggle if you’ve forgotten what it feels like.

Thank you @rhon_ree for my very first official golf lesson! Appreciate you being patient with me 😅

@timsukpga appreciate the rotational exercises you taught me the other day; it truly helped even in such a short amount of time

Thank you to @swingbays_rowlandheights for building a spot where a complete beginner can walk in and not feel judged. If you’re local to Rowland Heights and golf has been on your “someday” list: this is your sign.

⛳️ More of this journey coming. by @hyungle
