Here’s a bit of a sound effects only behind the Pro Tools scenes for Winsor + Newton’s 2025 campaign.   As with any bit of audio work there’s a balance between the aesthetics of something just sounding great or interesting and it conveying meaning instantly.   Like when you hear the first two beats of a track and instantly know what it is - or are transported to a place and time with a hyper specific or even clichéd audio cue. These tricks are even handier in audio only media - or in this case - audio with concrete conceptual links but abstract visuals. We had a blast making this spot and playing with associations while working with Maria Lax, Daniel Eatock and Art Practice on the audio choices. Some of the audio is a simple edit of a chosen sound while other sections use granular plugins and fracturing of the audio to create trippy conceptual spaces. The overall impression is a collection of decisions like - should ‘Feeling Kind Of Blue’ feature an ode to Miles Davis? Or should we fade to silence and leave the listener feeling - kind of blue?
