My teammates and coach deserve the recognition for the group we have and how we motivate and encourage each other, this was a win for them.

Over 4 years ago I found out I had herniated my L4L5 disc. When I got the call with the results I ran to my dad and we sat there googling what to do next and what this might mean. I had just a few doctors appointments total but they all told me there was no recovery time. This was a lifetime injury that would likely never heal. For a while, it didnt. This was the first time I had planned to quit pole vault because the pain often kept me awake at night. I had a variety of symptoms like pain in my back when I sneezed, shooting pains, numbness in my legs, and it was greatly affecting the way I pole vaulted. Fast forward to after I had cortisone shots in the left and right side of my back and transferred to New Mexico, my back started getting better and luckily I've had no issues in the past year.
Now, my injury was mild in comparison to many although I went 2 years without feeling like that. I call myself lucky because a younger version of myself was jealous of those that got the opportunities I have now. During this meet, that younger version of myself was cheering me on because she was too hurt to do what I'm doing now. I consider myself lucky because I am. I am one incredibly grateful girl.
