I looked in the mirror one morning and didn’t recognize the person staring back at me.

That was the moment I knew I had to change.

Not because someone told me to. Not because I hit one rock bottom, I hit several.

The streets. Addiction. A system I kept walking back into like I was comfortable being destroyed by it.

I was.

For a long time, I was completely comfortable being that person. That’s the part nobody talks about. It’s not always about wanting better. Sometimes you just don’t believe better is something that belongs to you.

I got tired of that lie.

So I got sober. I started over. And I started growing into two things I’d never really owned in my life - intelligence and confidence. Not given. Not inherited. Dragged out of myself, one brutal day at a time.

I’m still building. Every single day.

But I’m standing here as living proof that the version of you in that mirror isn’t permanent. That your past doesn’t get the final word. That rewriting your story is real - not a slogan, not a concept - something you choose every morning when it would be easier not to.

I’m not special. I didn’t have advantages.

I just decided I wasn’t done.

If you’re in that mirror moment right now - that’s all it takes. One decision. Then another. Then another. Then another.

You can do this.

Not my usual post.

I lost my Nana And Pop Pop years ago when I was a teenager and if I’m being completely honest, there are still moments where something small catches me off guard and it feels like it happened yesterday.

You get older, work harder, earn more, and can buy the things you used to dream about when you were younger... and then you realise none of that is really the stuff you miss.

I’d swap all of those things just to sit down and have breakfast with my grandparents again.

No big conversation or special occasion. Just one normal morning eating my Nana’s cream of wheat that I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about at the time.

That’s the weird thing about getting older huh? You spend so much of your younger life wanting more, chasing more, trying to get somewhere... then one day you realise some of the best things you ever had were the completely ordinary moments.

I’m guilty of forgetting that sometimes as well.
I’m always thinking about the next goal, the next bit of progress, what I need to improve, what I need to build.

But life is happening now as well.

So if you’ve still got your grandparents around, ring them. Go see them. Enjoy that time. Have the breakfast. Put the fucking phone down for half an hour and actually be there.

Because one day you’d give anything for one more completely ordinary morning.

Nothing happened today.

No PR. No breakthrough. No moment where I suddenly felt different.

I ran. I finished. I went home.
