Built different and I’ve got the credentials to prove it✍🏾

From day one, this journey demanded everything from me—blood, sweat, and tears poured into every model, every drawing, every sleepless night. Early mornings turned into even later nights, and there were moments I questioned if I had anything left to give. But through every critique and every jury review, I kept showing up. I came into this program not knowing much, but I’m leaving with knowledge, discipline, and a resilience that can’t be shaken.

FAMU’s School of Architecture & Engineering Technology tested me in ways I never expected. It taught me that this field is so much more than drawings and presentations—it’s about experience, perspective, and pushing beyond limits. It forced me to think beyond the obvious, to challenge the box instead of staying inside it, and to trust the process even when it felt uncomfortable. There were times I wanted to give up, but this journey taught me that when you have a goal, you stick to it and push through no matter what.

This moment means even more because I’m walking in the footsteps of my grandfather, carrying forward a legacy he began. Completing an architecture degree at an HBCU is more than an accomplishment—it’s a continuation of purpose, pride, and perseverance. I will now be adding to the 1.9% of Black women that hold a Bachelors of Science in Architecture Degree. Thank you to the School of Architecture & Engineering Technology, my professors who poured into me, and my incredible cohort. They told us to look around at the person next to us because they might not be there at graduation—but we made it. I couldn’t be more proud of us and I love you all so very much.
