Mental Health Matters!!!🩵🩵

May is Mental Health Matters month, and as someone who has struggled deeply with mental health I thought I would share my story, to inspire others to embrace their struggles and what they have been through!!🫶✨

Truthfully, I have been struggling with mental health since the age of 4. Moving to America was a major challenge, the language and cultural barrier made me feel like an outsider. I would always tell my mom to pack me a “normal lunch” or to only pick me up from school in “normal clothes”. But nothing about changing who you truly are is normal. 3 weeks before the end of 6th grade, I was cyberbullied. There was a group chat created, with every single person in my grade other than myself. It was called the “Devina Hate Club”, and what’s worse is that it was made by my best friend. To them it was just for fun, to me it was a stab in the back, and a punch to the throat. I couldn’t attend school for a week because of how bad the bullying got. From calling me names in the hall, to whispering about me at lunch, there is only so much one can handle. I shut down, stopped eating, talking, and started having thoughts that the world is better without me. I was fortunate enough to find help, through my family, counselors, and other adults that supported me, but not everyone has access to those resources, and that’s why 36% of teens think of or do commit.

THIS IS MY WHY‼️‼️

I strive to be that resource for teens, because I couldn’t imagine what would have happened if I didn’t have my family and support system.💫
