🌱Eran Jije Open-Air Exhibition | Lagos 2025 - opening: Saturday, 22nd November 2025

EJP presents “Environmental Stewardship” - a curatorial theme that invites reflection on our relationship with the natural world. The exhibition repositions communities not as distant caretakers, but as active participants within an interconnected ecological system. Through storytelling, indigenous knowledge, artistic expression, material experimentation, and upcycling practices, it challenges conventional narratives - urging us to see environmental care not as charity, but as shared responsibility and mutual survival.

As part of our ongoing partnership with @fordfoundation and @goetheinstitut_nigeria for the Claiming the Future Project (@ctf2025_ ), @nonewfriends_nnf participating artists and collaborators held workshops, communal gatherings, and developing pieces leading up to the exhibition. These encounters were more than preparation — they transformed the community itself into a living exhibition. Here, the boundaries between artist and audience dissolve, and the community emerges as both muse and maker, voicing collective responses to climate vulnerability, stewardship, and ancestral connections to the land.

The Eran Jije Open-Air Exhibition 2025 culminates in a multi-sensory experience featuring installations, mural displays, performances, soundscapes, shared meals, traditional games, and spontaneous music sessions. This gathering is a shared offering: a call to listen, feel, and imagine an alternative ecological future rooted in reciprocity, memory, and healing.

ENCOUNTERS - OPEN STUDIO

Peter D. Abayomi & Lương Huệ Trinh
@iam_peterbata | @luong_hue_trinh

Sound • Ritual • Performance

What happens when artists meet through listening?

Come through for ENCOUNTERS, an open studio session exploring what can emerge when artists meet through sound, movement, ritual, improvisation, and shared presence.

Born from a recent encounter in Nigeria between Lagos-based multidisciplinary artist and composer Peter D. Abayomi, and Vietnamese multimedia composer, sound artist, and electro-acoustic improviser Lương Huệ Trinh, marking her first performance in Nigeria.

Instead of finished works, we’re opening up our process — the questions, experiments, gestures, sounds, and exchanges shaping how the work is made.

ENCOUNTERS invites you into a space of making and listening — what happens when we truly listen to one another, when artistic traditions from different regions meet in the vastness of the universe?

On 21st July 2026, the Eran Jije Ensemble performed at the German Consulate Lagos reception dinner in honour of @aussenminister @auswaertigesamt - German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs.

To have our music in that room, and leave an impact, means everything.

We shared the evening with other dignitaries from Lagos cultural sector, business community, politics, and the diplomatic corps.

It was a great honour to be part of the celebrations of German-Nigerian cooperation - driving commercial investments, exploring business partnerships, and strengthening cultural exchange.

Shout out to @falanamusic and @jiiresmith for filling the room with your incredible voices

And thank you to @ekohotels for the warm hospitality. taken in Eko Hotels and Suites by @iam_peterbata

Forging a community for collective survival does not mean retreating into priviliged eco-villages on the outskirts of the capitalist system. It means breaking dependency from extractivist, exploitative and neocolonial supply chains that is profiting on the backs of the global majority. How can the North de-center itself, relinquish imperial privilege, and become a genuine partner in building a multipolar, ecological civilisation? We will practice anti-opression and use power-critical tools to unlearn and deconstruct, while focusing on building a global, anti-colonial network for redistribution.

In this open-source and upcycling workshop, Peter D. Abayomi invites participants to become active creators, thinkers, and change-makers by exploring the hidden stories behind everyday waste. Rooted in the theme Beauty from Imperfection: Hands Saving the Earth, the workshop encourages participants to see discarded materials not as useless, but as powerful tools for creativity, expression, and environmental action. Working with waste fabrics, offcuts, second-hand garments, plastics, paper, bags, cans, flip flops, cables, and found objects sourced in Freie Feldlage alongside materials transported from Lagos, participants will investigate how waste travels across the world, how these movements reflect deeper inequalities between the Global North and Global South, revealing the urgent need of accountability.

Money is inherently an emotional topic - up to 90% of financial behaviors are made emotionally. It is also connected to class, race, power - in both intimate personal and collective experiences. As it is also one of the biggest taboos in Western society, this combination makes it one of the most charged topics in political organizing and movement building spaces. Talking about money can be difficult, latent with projections and shame, and yet it is more important than ever, when the far right control the majority of the world’s resources, and AI and conflict throw us all into financially uncertain world. ⚠️ Please note: The Circular Heroes workshop has unfortunately been cancelled due to visa issues.

As part of THE LAND REMEMBERS exhibition, Peter D. Abayomi @iam_peterbata will host the Circular Heroes workshop on the last day of the exhibition 2 June at GlogauAir Berlin @glogauair. Participants are asked to bring their own discarded materials and will receive instructions on methods such as embroidery, applique, and weaving, and experimentally apply them to pre-made printed textiles aiming to visualise waste objects as “activated objects” and portraying local Nigerian teenagers from the Isale Akoka area in Bariga as key players in the circular economy.

The first iterations of the Circular Heroes workshop were hosted by Rafael Kouto @rafaelkouto in collaboration with Peter D. Abayomi @iam_peterbata at Eran Jije Studio @eranjijeproject in Bariga, at G.A.S. Foundation @gasfoundation in Lagos, Nigeria, and Maison Shift @maisonshift in Zürich, Switzerland.

When: 2 June, 2-5pm
Finissage starting at 6pm.
Where: GlogauAir, Berlin

Lagos Demolition Impact - LEAVING NOTHING UNREMEMBERED

We remember that we were here.
Our blood, labor, spirits, bones, deities, bodies, memories, footsteps, languages, cultures, tribes, voices, and forms of urban life animated this land.

The land does not forget.

We shall carry this memory forward. Bariga, Oworo, and Makoko custodians built and sustained this community long before now.

Lagos Demolition Impact - Making the POOR POORER.

As citizens of the world, we feel erased from the city we call home. Stripped of our settlement in Lagos landscape, its urban planning, and its imagined future, we are treated not as custodians of the city, but as intruders within it.

The government’s intention appears heartbreakingly clear: to wipe out every waterfront settlement in Lagos without any plan for resettlement, compensation, or alternative housing. Families are rendered homeless overnight. Parents are left unable to provide. Children are denied the space to dream. Entire communities are pushed into unbearable suffering, their lives shattered in an instant.

Lagos continues to expand and modernize, yet this so-called progress deliberately excludes the poor, pushing them deeper into poverty. For more than twelve months, waves of demolitions and forced land seizures have torn through coastal communities across the city. Over 150,000 people have been displaced. Homes, personal belongings, and livelihoods have been reduced to ashes. More than 20 lives have been lost. Floating schools have been destroyed, and businesses wiped out.

Today, children wake up without classrooms, unsecured, and without hope, left knee-deep in mud and uncertainty, abandoned by a system meant to protect them.

Is this what they truly call DEVELOPMENT?
