When discussing his definitive performance as Joe Jackson in the 1992 miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs has always spoken about the role with a deep sense of responsibility and nuance. He emphasizes that he never wanted to play Joe as a one-dimensional villain, choosing instead to find the humanity behind the strict patriarch by drawing on the "hard, tough love" discipline of his own West Indian father.
There is often curiosity regarding how he feels about Oscar nominee Colman Domingo (whom you likely mean by "Jacob Domingo"), who stepped into the iconic role of Joseph Jackson for Antoine Fuqua’s 2026 big-screen biopic, Michael. #michaelmovie #michaeljackson taken in Los Angeles, California by @iamahku

DJ Klark Gable: from the group "51.50 Illegally Insane" tells a legendary story.
When 2Pac Brought Digital Underground to Marin City
One of the most legendary, unwritten chapters of Bay Area hip-hop history involves the day Tupac—fresh off hitting the big time—decided to bring his new family back to his old stomping grounds.
By 1991, Tupac had joined forces with Oakland's alternative hip-hop heavyweights, Digital Underground, making his explosive recording debut on the hit single "Same Song". Wanting to show love to the community that embraced him when he first touched down in California, Pac arranged for the entire Digital Underground crew—including Shock G and Money B—to come out to a local event in Marin City.
The energy in Marin City aka the "Jungle" was already electric because Vallejo's own rising star, Mac Dre, was in town to perform. Before he became the undisputed king of the Thizz Nation and the "Crest Keeper," a young Mac Dre was tearing up the Bay Area underground with his raw, distinct flow.
As DJ Klark Gable recalls, the collision of these distinct worlds inside Marin City created an unforgettable moment of pure, unified Bay Area culture. You had Vallejo's street-level, independent blueprint represented by Mac Dre, meeting Oakland's theatrical, mainstream-bound energy from Digital Underground, all brought together by a young, fiercely loyal Tupac Shakur bridging the gap for his hometown crowd. It remains a testament to a golden, untouched era.

DJ Klark Gable is a pioneer of the Bay Area hip-hop scene, best known as the core producer and DJ for the Marin City, California rap group 51.50 Illegally Insane. Formed in the late 1980s alongside members like Ryan D, Levy Love, and TAC, Klark Gable was the sonic architect of the group, blending smooth, soulful, Sade-sampling production with raw, honest street narratives. Their seminal 1992 album, Games People Play, put Marin City firmly on the hip-hop map.
Long before 51.50 released their official albums, Klark Gable was part of a tight-knit circle of young artists in Marin City that included a teenage Tupac Shakur, who had recently moved to the area from Baltimore. In the late 1980s, Gable, Tupac, Ray Luv, and others formed a collective known simply as "The Crew" (TC), spending hours making rudimentary tape recordings and writing verses.
2Pac’s First Battle Rap (The Ricky Coleman Showdown)
According to Bay Area hip-hop lore and accounts from those who were there during the "The Crew" era, Tupac's very first true West Coast battle rap encounter happened shortly after he arrived in California, bridging the gap between Marin City and Oakland.
When Tupac first started hanging around the local music scenes, he hadn't yet established his roots. During a trip out to Oakland with friends, an active and respected local figure named Ricky Coleman stepped to Tupac, challenging him because Pac was proudly claiming the East Bay/Oakland area despite being a newcomer from the East Coast.
To prove himself and earn respect in a notoriously tough scene. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel On Set With Ahku Unscripted for the full episode coming soon. RIP Tupac and Ryan D 🙏🏿 #5150 #2pac #Thuglife #BayArearap #battlerap by @iamahku

5150 Illegally Insane is a rap group that emerged from the underground hip-hop scene, known for their aggressive delivery, gritty storytelling, and themes that lean into the chaotic and raw aspects of street life.
The name "5150" is a direct reference to the California Welfare and Institutions Code section for the involuntary confinement of a person suspected of having a mental disorder that makes them a danger to themselves or others—a motif the group uses to cultivate an image of being wild, unpredictable, and unrestrained in their artistry.
Typically associated with the West Coast style, their music often features heavy basslines and dark, cinematic production. They built their reputation through independent releases, focusing on themes of defiance, survival, and the harsh realities of their environment, positioning themselves as outsiders who operate outside the norms of the mainstream industry.
I have permission to use this music.
