Almost two years ago Marlon sent me some of his work in progress so that I could make drawings in response. I used his writings while I was at The Siena Art Institute to create images of doorways, undefinable architecture, slippery people, and liminal spaces. Some of the writing Marlon sent me made its way into his new novel, “The Disappearers”. Today I walked to my local independent bookstore and bought a copy. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: How lucky to be around at the same time as Marlon James.

When I moved back to NYC last November my friend Judi hooked me up with a job at the Odeon. This restaurant is special and artists have felt a gravitational pull to it since it opened in 1980. Working here has given me a chance to reengage with New York, catch up with old friends, make new friends, and pay the bills. Although my time at the Odeon has come to an end, I will always be grateful for the friends I’ve made here. Thanks for our time together guys.
I’m so lucky our paths crossed.

Cy and I had dinner at the Odeon tonight to celebrate the end of 3rd grade. We threw back a couple Shirley Temples and talked about old times. He’s looking forward to the 4th grade. As for me… you can take me out of the 3rd grade but you can’t take the 3rd grader out of me.
