How should an email marketing calendar actually look?" comes up all the time, so here's the general shape I'd build toward.

Start with what's always running: your flows. Welcome series, abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back — these aren't things you schedule for a specific day, they're triggered by what someone does, and they run every day of the month whether or not you send a single campaign. This is your backbone, and it's usually responsible for the bulk of your revenue even in a slow month.

Layer campaigns on top of that — a mix of value-driven content and actual promotions, not just constant selling. If every send is an ask, people tune out fast.

During big sale periods, the rhythm shifts temporarily — more touches across both channels for a short window, then back down to normal once it's over.

Where this gets specific is the actual numbers — exactly how many sends a month, how that splits by week, which segments get extra touches and which don't. That part depends a lot on your list size, your average order value, and what your flows are already picking up — which is really a conversation, not a generic template I'd want to hand out as one-size-fits-all.

If you want to actually map this out for your brand instead of guessing at the shape, DM me "EMAIL" and let's talk through it.

This one feels counterintuitive to a lot of brand owners, but hear me out: a bigger list isn't automatically a better list.

If a chunk of your list hasn't opened an email in six months or more, they're not just a wasted send — they're actively hurting you. Inbox providers pay attention to engagement, and a list full of people ignoring your emails signals that you might not be worth delivering to the inbox at all. That drags down performance for everyone else on your list too, not just the inactive ones.

Before you cut anyone, run a real win-back attempt — something with an actual reason to re-engage, not a generic "we miss you." Give it a real shot. But if they still don't open after that, it's time to remove them.

I know it feels wrong to shrink a number you worked to build. In practice, a smaller list that actually opens your emails will outperform a bigger one full of people quietly ignoring you, almost every time.

The specific win-back sequence I run before removing anyone is worth a real look at your list rather than a generic template. DM me "EMAIL" and I'll walk you through it.

You can spend an hour writing the perfect email and none of it matters if the subject line doesn't get the open.

A few things I've found actually move the needle. Curiosity works, but only when it's honest — "this changes everything" with zero context just smells like spam and people have gotten good at ignoring that. Specific numbers beat vague claims almost every time; "3 things I'd fix on your site" gets opened more than "some tips for you," because it sounds like there's an actual answer waiting.

Here's one people miss constantly: your preview text. Most platforms auto-pull the first line of your email into that space, which usually wastes it on "view in browser" or your logo alt text. Write that preview text on purpose — it's basically a second subject line sitting right there for free.

And when you're testing, change one thing at a time — otherwise you'll never know which change actually made the difference.

I use a handful of subject line formats that consistently perform well across different niches, but I'll save those for a DM rather than a caption. DM me "EMAIL", and I'll send them over.

How often should ecom brands be emailing? is one of the most common questions I get, and it's usually the wrong one to be asking first.

Three genuinely good, well-targeted emails a week will almost always beat seven generic ones — not because of the number, but because of whether people actually want to open what you send. And here's the part that surprises people: sending too much with nothing worth saying doesn't just fail to help; it actively trains your list to stop opening. Once that happens a few times in a row, it starts hurting how your emails get delivered at all, not just how many people open them.

If you and your brand are stuck deciding between sending more or sending better, send better. Get your flows and your segmentation right first — frequency is the last thing to adjust, not the first.

What "right" actually looks like for your list depends on your data, not a general rule.

DM me "STRATEGY" if you want an honest read on your brands current send frequency.

If you only build four flows this year, build these four.

Welcome series, abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back, and browse abandonment — together, these cover basically the entire customer journey, and they usually make up the bulk of flow revenue for the brands I've worked with. Each one does a different job, and getting the tone and timing right for each is where most of the actual strategy lives.

Most brands have one or two of these actually running and assume that's enough. The revenue gap between two flows and all five is usually way bigger than people expect.

I'll save the specifics on timing and structure for each one for a real conversation. Save this post, and DM me "FLOWS" if you want help building out any of these for your brand.

Here's where I think this is heading, and I'm confident enough in it to put my name on it.

Inboxes keep getting more crowded, which means the generic "here's our sale" blast is going to keep losing ground. Personalization is turning from a nice bonus into the baseline expectation. And deliverability requirements are only going to keep tightening, not loosen — so the brands that get their technical setup right now won't be scrambling later.

None of this needs a huge team or budget to start on. It just needs you to treat email like actual infrastructure instead of an afterthought squeezed in after the ad account.

There's more to how I'd actually prepare a brand for this shift than fits in a caption. DM me "EMAIL" if you want to talk through where your setup stands right now.

If I had to tell a brand owner what actually moves the needle in email, it wouldn't be anything flashy.

Your flows matter more than any single campaign. Clean segmentation matters more than a beautiful template. A properly set up domain matters more than a clever subject line, because none of that matters if you're landing in spam. And just showing up consistently beats chasing one viral send.

None of this is exciting to talk about. It's also exactly why most brands are still leaving money on the table — the boring stuff is what actually compounds.

I'm not going to turn this into a full checklist here — every brand's weak point is different. If you want a real look at where your setup actually stands, DM me "EMAIL."

What happens after someone buys from you? If the honest answer is "nothing until our next sale email," that's the easiest revenue you're not collecting.

There's a real sequence worth building here — starting with the confirmation, then something low-key that keeps you present without selling anything, then a review request timed for when the product's actually been used, then a follow-up further out tied to what they bought.

Most brands stop at the confirmation email, or jump straight to a generic "shop more" blast. Both waste the moment when someone's most likely to buy from you again — they already trust you enough to have handed over their card once.

I'll spare you the exact day-by-day timing here, since it changes depending on what you sell and how fast people typically use it up. DM me "EMAIL", and I'll map it out for your specific product.

Someone just joined your list. What's the first thing they get from you?

If it's "here's 10% off, welcome!" — you're skipping the part that actually makes people want to buy from you specifically, not just take the discount and move on.

The sequence that works better spreads this out over a few emails instead of one — starting with who you are and why the brand exists, building some real proof before you ever ask for anything, and only bringing the offer in once there's actual trust behind it.

It's more emails than most brands bother setting up, but it's the one sequence that reaches almost everyone who ever joins your list — worth getting right instead of rushing straight to the discount.

The exact pacing depends on your product and price point, so I'll save the full breakdown for a real conversation rather than a caption. DM me "EMAIL", and I'll walk you through what it should look like for your brand.

If your open rates have quietly dropped over the last few months and you can't figure out why, before you touch your subject lines, check this.

If your domain's authentication isn't set up right — SPF, DKIM, DMARC, the technical stuff most brands never think about after launch — your emails can start landing in spam without any warning. It doesn't show up as an error anywhere. It just looks like your performance slipped for no reason.

Go into your DNS settings and check all three of those are present and configured correctly. Most email platforms will actually show you a status for this — if anything says "not verified" or "failed," that's your answer.

I check this first with every new brand I work with, before I even look at the content, because it's the kind of thing that quietly tanks performance for months and nobody notices until they go looking.

Worth five minutes of your time this week. DM me "EMAIL" if you want help figuring out what to look for.

If you're sending the exact same email to your whole list every time, here's why that's quietly hurting you.

Your most loyal customers don't need a discount to buy from you again — offering one constantly can actually cheapen the relationship. Meanwhile someone who hasn't opened your emails in three months needs something different than "check out our new arrivals," or they're just going to keep ignoring you.

You don't need some complicated setup to fix this. Start with three simple groups: people who bought recently, people who've gone quiet, and everyone else. Give the first group early access or something that feels exclusive. Give the second group an actual reason to come back — a real incentive, not a generic reminder. Let the rest keep getting your normal sends.

This alone changes how your list responds to you, and it takes an afternoon to set up, not a big project.

If your list is still one big undifferentiated blast every time,

DM me "EMAIL," and I'll walk you through the simplest way to split it.
