Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, equality, and justice.

Justice is not a social media graphic.

Justice is not a slogan.

Justice is not something you post about once a year.

Justice is measured by how people are treated when no one is watching, how institutions respond when concerns are raised, and whether those with power choose accountability over retaliation.

Hearing the verdict broke me down in a way I wasn’t expecting.

I cried uncontrollably because I see our kids. I see their faces every week on the track, in our programs, and throughout our community. And I was reminded just how fragile life can be and how important it is that we keep showing up for them.

Working with youth has taught me that every child is more than the worst moment of their life, and every family deserves compassion when facing tragedy.

I don’t have all the answers. I only know that my heart is heavy tonight, and I am praying for healing, peace, and grace for everyone affected. by @iamcandicecooper
