I had the opportunity to close the @remaxcanada Broker/Owner & Manager Retreat in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

One of the ideas we explored throughout the keynote was simple:

Momentum isn’t something we find.

Momentum is something we create.

Through mindset.

Through decisions.

Through standards.

Momentum is a choice.

I’ve joined @speakerscanada

Four years ago, I stepped away from a 14-year career in commercial aviation to build something new. Since then, Momentum Shift has grown from an idea into a keynote and leadership system delivered to organizations across North America.

SBC will now help bring that work to more leadership conferences, sales kickoffs and corporate events across Canada and beyond.

Thank you Roger Breault and Gordon Breault and the entire SBC team for the trust and for making the entire onboarding process incredibly professional.

This one matters.

One of the biggest reminders I took away from this past week...

Momentum is rarely built alone.

It was an honour to spend time with the incredible community at WIN, surrounded by leaders committed to learning, supporting one another, and creating meaningful impact.

What stood out most wasn't just the conversations on stage—it was everything that happened between. The relationships. The generosity. The willingness to share ideas, challenges, and experiences with one another.

Those moments are where momentum begins.

A sincere thank you to everyone at @winevada for the opportunity to be part of this year's conference, and to Western Alliance Bank for supporting such a meaningful event.

I'm grateful to everyone who stopped to chat, shared their story, received a Remove Before Flight tag, or simply introduced themselves. Those conversations are always the highlight of every event.

Community has a remarkable way of reminding us that progress doesn't happen in isolation.

It happens when people come together with a shared purpose.

Momentum doesn't always come from adding more.

Sometimes it comes from removing what's holding you back.

One of the leadership frameworks I teach is called Remove Before Flight.

In aviation, aircraft have bright red Remove Before Flight tags attached to critical safety equipment before takeoff. If those tags aren't removed, the aircraft isn't ready to fly safely.

Leadership works the same way.

Before teams can perform at a higher level, leaders often need to remove the things creating unnecessary drag.

Ask yourself:

• What habits are slowing us down?
• What processes are creating friction?
• What conversations are we avoiding?
• What beliefs or assumptions are keeping us stuck?

The goal isn't to do more.

It's to remove what no longer serves you so your team can move forward with greater clarity, accountability, and momentum.

Small shifts lead to big breakthroughs.

Most people think momentum is about working harder.

It doesn't.

After 14 years flying helicopters in high-pressure environments, I learned that people tend to operate in one of The 4 Human Flight Zones.

🚁 Hover
Stuck. Waiting. Overthinking. Afraid to move.

🚁 Overload
Busy, reactive, and overwhelmed. Constant motion—but little progress.

🚁 Lift
Learning, adapting, and building confidence. Momentum is beginning to build.

🚁 Momentum
Purposeful execution. Clear decisions. Consistent action.

The interesting part isn't which zone you're in.

It's understanding the two factors that influence every zone:

• Awareness — Knowing where you're operating today.
• Action — Choosing what you'll do next.

You can't always control uncertainty.

But you can control how you respond to it.

Small shifts lead to big breakthroughs.

Change doesn’t kill momentum. Waiting does.

Most leaders aren’t struggling because conditions are difficult.

They’re struggling because they’re waiting for certainty.

Waiting for more information.

Waiting for the market to improve.

Waiting for the perfect time to act.

But momentum rarely appears while you’re standing still.

The leaders creating momentum today aren’t the ones with perfect conditions.

They’re the ones responding best to the conditions they have.

Because leadership isn’t about certainty.

It’s about movement.

Momentum is a choice.

The best leaders I know aren’t perfect operators.

They’re excellent course correctors.

They catch drift early.

A missed workout.

A delayed decision.

A postponed conversation.

Small deviations rarely feel dangerous in the moment.

But left unchecked, they compound.

In aviation, course corrections happen continuously.

Leadership is no different.

The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s awareness.

Because awareness creates adjustment.

And adjustment creates momentum.
