Dear trainer,

Are you looking for a way to motivate and engage your players in 10 to 20 meter sprints without any complaints? One effective approach is to incorporate ball contact into their sprint sessions. By doing so, you can enhance their enjoyment and enthusiasm for the sprints.

The clip is a simple sprint exercise, If you’re interested in organizing more sprint sessions with this approach, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. by @iamcoachbasil

Four weeks ago, I stepped in as a volunteer. Today, that journey has become official.

What started as a voluntary role has now become an official one, and I’m proud and excited to sign on as an ADO Coach for the 2026/27 season.

A special thank you to my club, @fcskillznl for giving me the platform and the opportunity to grow. I’m also grateful to all the players and teams I have had the privilege of working with, both individually and as a group. Every experience, challenge, and lesson has helped this journey.

This is just the beginning. In shaa Allah, if this journey brings blessings, joy, and growth while keeping me close to Allah, may Allah help me achieve my goals. And if it ever leads me away from what is pleasing to Him, may Allah guide me towards a path that is better and more pleasing to Him.

Thank you, Giorgione 🤍🖤

Pre-season camp is underway. This first week has focused on technical activation drills, rhythm and movement development, reaction-based exercises, and low-intensity conditioning. The emphasis is on gradually building the players’ physical and technical foundations, allowing them to adapt to training loads while establishing quality movement patterns and preparing for the demands of the upcoming season.

⚠️ Every child develops at their own pace, and one of the most important factors in their journey is having a coach who understands the different stages of development and can help maximise their potential.

At the same time, he’s still only at the beginning of his football journey. While his progress has been excellent, he still has a long way to go and plenty to learn. Like every young player, there are many aspects of his game that will continue to develop over the coming years.

One of the biggest mistakes parents make is expecting major improvements within a few weeks or months. Football development is a long-term process. Consistency, patience, and repetition are what create meaningful progress over time.

Allow them to express themselves, make mistakes, and learn from them. Give them ownership of their development and trust the coach to guide the process.

As a coach, I can help players improve their technique, habits, decision-making, and provide the right environment for growth. However, I also believe and know. The way this player feels the game, his close control, and some of his instincts on the ball are qualities I didn’t teach him—they’re part of his natural ability.

If you’re considering 1v1 training for your child, focus less on how quickly they improve and more on whether they’re enjoying the process, staying consistent, and developing good habits. Long-term development will always outperform short-term expectations.

Help your child fall in love with the game, support them through the highs and lows, trust the journey, and the progress will come. by @iamcoachbasil

January–June: Three Teams, One Big Challenge

The first half of the year was one of the most demanding periods of my coaching journey. Alongside my role as Assistant Coach with Skillz First Team, I stepped in to lead both the Ladies First Team and U14s, managing three teams simultaneously.

While I’m proud to have seen all three commitments through to the end, it’s not something I’d rush to do again. The experience tested me as a coach and leader, teaching valuable lessons about pressure, decision-making, resilience, and the realities of managing multiple teams.

Ladies First Team
Despite starting the season with a five-point deduction, we believed we could compete for the league. The biggest challenges were inconsistent attendance, varying training intensity, and players already planning moves to other clubs. Squad depth was often limited, but through commitment and hard work we built a more reliable matchday squad and produced a strong run of results.

Balancing selection decisions was not always easy, but the experience strengthened my leadership and reinforced the importance of staying true to what I believed was best for the team.

U14 Team
Taking over in January with only a week before the season restarted presented an immediate challenge. Following relegation, the focus was on rebuilding confidence, restoring enjoyment, and creating belief within the group, while still aiming to be competitive.

Several players were already looking ahead to next season, making it important to reconnect the squad and refocus everyone on finishing strongly together. The season highlighted the importance of preparation, structure, and the difficulties of implementing long-term ideas when taking over a team midway through a campaign.

A huge thank you to the parents for their support and communication throughout, and a special thank you to my assistant coach, @chayennemutsaers whose commitment and professionalism were invaluable during a challenging period.

Sometimes the greatest lesson isn’t whether you can do something, it’s understanding exactly what it takes when you do.

Building game understanding 🧠⚽
Instead of constant coaching, I used my positioning to guide decisions:

• Finding free space
• Supporting the ball with angles
• Movement off the ball
Progressed into:
• One-two combinations
• Through passes
• Overlapping runs

The level of understanding from 7–8 year olds was outstanding 👏
