Dear Friends,

Your prayers, good vibes, and loving thoughts are much needed & appreciated right now. As some of you who are local and those with whom I’ve been in recent contact already know, I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer. This has come as a great shock to me since I have never felt better in my life!
Over the past two months I have had many biopsies and learned that while I have a treatable kind of breast cancer, it is “multicentric,” meaning it is showing up in several different quadrants of my breasts. This has led to some of the biggest decisions I’ve ever faced, and this Thursday, May 30, I will head into surgery for a double mastectomy.
I am extremely grateful to feel very grounded, surrounded by love, and deeply connected to the eternal spark in me that cannot be diminished regardless of how my body is changed. And, I am also experiencing waves of grief as I prepare to say goodbye to these breasts which have been my sensual companions for the better part of my almost 52 years, nourished my child, and brought me great pleasure.
I know I am not alone in finding myself presented with an unexpected challenge, be it an unwanted diagnosis such as cancer or any of the myriad trials life can bring. This is one of the reasons I am choosing to share this news and to document this journey — I truly believe that being real about our experiences as human beings has the potential to create the kind of intimacy and connection that dispels fear and reveals the healing power of love!
