Who am I… I am who I am, I’m a man who came from a town that everyone knows because of its violence, but I told myself at a early age I would never let that define me into the person I become. At first I didn’t know if I even wanted to go to college but God lead me to East Carolina University. Freshmen to Senior year I have constantly evolved into the person I am today.

The man who has joined multiple organizations on campus, been on three executives boards for more than a year, the man who joined the great Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, the man who became president of the Eta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, and the man who became the first African-American “Captain of The Ship” at East Carolina University.

My step father’s last conversation with me was, “You are man, everything in life you have to earn, take care of your mom and your sister you are all they have now. Keep working hard Daniel I’ve seen you grow up and I’m proud of the man you’re becoming”. May he rest in heaven, May 12, 2024

My mom always tells me when facing adversity, “Push in”, if you don’t do it, then it won’t get done.

We did it! On Saturday October 26th, I officially became the first African American to be crowned Captain of the Ship, at East Carolina University🏴‍☠️💜.

I would like to take a second to thank everyone for voting for me, not only that but all the great people I met from this as well. Walking around seeing and talking to everyone about what “Captain of the Ship” is and what I bring to the table to be a great qualified candidate was very special to me. Even at times getting to help direct people in different directions because they were looking for something in specific out of college/campus life.

I made sure to put the following statement on each flyer that was handed out because it is powerful and true, I love East Carolina University and everything offered as well as the diversity factor. Thanks to everyone for believing in me, whenever doing something great, make sure to have NO QUARTER!🏴‍☠️

“From the very first time I stepped onto this campus, I knew it was going to be more than just a journey. I have come to know great people along the way, made countless unforgettable memories, and have learned so many life long lessons. Now, I’m running for Captain of the Ship, displaying my leadership, heart, and courage. I’m asking for everyone’s support on this endeavor & together, we’ll sail through challenges and celebrate victories. Let’s chart a course towards greatness. Here’s to the winds of change & diversity!”
