Getting to be part of such a meaningful chapter in my friends’ lives is something I don’t take for granted.Richard and Ly knew what mattered most to them. A home zoned to strong schools, close to the city, where they could plant roots and grow their family. We found just that: a new neighborhood with great amenities that feels like the suburbs without being too far removed.Even though both had purchased homes before, this time was different. It was about building something new together. One of the biggest mistakes a buyer can make?Choosing an agent based solely on who they know.And before anyone gets upset… we’re not saying every new agent is bad, and we’re definitely not saying you shouldn’t support friends and family.What we are saying is this:A home is one of the biggest purchases you’ll ever make. The person guiding you through that process matters.Yet a lot of buyers spend more time researching a TV, a restaurant, or their next vacation than they do researching the agent representing them.Especially in our Vietnamese community, we’ve seen this happen a lot.Someone’s cousin just got their license.A family friend offers a discount.Someone promises a small kickback.And suddenly that’s how the decision gets made.The problem is that a discount can save you a few thousand dollars today, while poor advice, missed negotiations, overlooked issues, or lack of market knowledge can cost you tens of thousands.Before choosing an agent, do your homework.Look at their experience.Look at their production.Look at the markets they actually work in.Look at the results they’ve produced for their clients.Because when you’re making a six or seven-figure decision, the cheapest option isn’t always the best value.How did you choose the last professional you hired? Maybe the lot isn’t perfect. Maybe the commute is longer.
