I just wanted avocado toast… but apparently I’m a DRAMA QUEEN in the kitchen. 😂👑🥑 So avocado toast turned into fresh homemade multigrain pan de masa madre loaded with garden herbs 🌿, my homemade dressing + seasoning, pink Himalayan salt, local Costa Rican honey 🍯… then married to a fresh veggie lettuce boat packed with carrots, cucumber, parsley, habanero, tomatoes & red onion. 🥬🌶️🍅 Almost everything came straight from my garden or the local La Feria. 🇨🇷🌱 A whole LIVING sandwich made at home with LOVE—and for a fraction of restaurant prices. And babyyyy… THIS THANG SLAPPED. 😭🔥 So good I made it TWO DAYS IN A ROW. SO ABOUT THE BEES… 🐝😂☀️ I went to Manuel Antonio, sat on my usual park bench waiting for the monkeys to come visit… NOT A MONKEY IN SIGHT. 🙄🐒 Instead, I got SWARMED BY HONEYBEES. 🐝🐝🐝 First they landed on my legs. Then my shirt. Then my crystals. Then my hands. So naturally… I sat there, mostly still, welcomed them and started sipping my tea—with LOCAL HONEY in it, of course. 😂🍯☕️ They buzzed around my cup, crawled over my hands, inspected my crystals, and one even flew right up under my hat beside my ear and gave me a little complimentary SOUND THERAPY. 😭🐝🎶 At that point, we were just having ourselves a BUZZING good time. It felt like Ra himself looked down and said: “Hey girl… I see you. I smell you. You are a SWEET TREAT.” ☀️😂🍯 Then a local walked up, looked at this entire situation and asked me if I was HARVESTING BEES FOR HONEY. SIR. 😭😂😂😂 Apparently being peacefully covered in bees on a park bench is NOT normal tourist behavior. Now whether my FREEquency was just that divine… ✨ or I simply smelled like one big walking flower… 🌺🐝 I’ll let the bees decide. SO ABOUT TODAY . . . 🙊🙉🐒 I went to my usual monkey spot at the beach… NOT A MONKEY IN SIGHT. Buuut I DID get buzzzzzed by about 10 🐝s. 😭 So I came home, left my balcony door open and something told me: LOOK UP. For a SPLIT second I thought a little bitty MAN was standing on my balcony staring at me. 😭 My first thought: “OH MY GOD, IT’S AN OOMPA LOOMPA!” 🤣 Then my brain caught up: A white-faced capuchin was on my balcony LIKE HE PAID RENT, contemplating coming in my house. 😂 I remembered the coconut I’d brought to the beach… One monkey came. Then another. Then another. Next thing I know, THREE CAPUCHINS AND FREE ARE HAVING AN INTIMATE LATE-EVENING SNACK. 🥥🐒🐒🐒 Then came the chapapote chocolate… BABY. These monkeys eat like TODDLERS WHO REFUSE THE HIGH CHAIR. 😭 Chocolate fruit smashed, dropped, flung and smeared EVERYWHERE. My balcony looked like we’d had a full-blown POOP FIGHT. 💩🤣 But underneath the comedy was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. 🥹 They ate from my hands, watched me, trusted me and kept coming back for another piece. I even had to fuss when somebody tried to steal the WHOLE fruit instead of sharing. 😂 For about 20 minutes, it was just FREE and three little wild beings sharing food, space and trust. And all I could think was: AAAAAH… I HAVE LIVED. 🥹🌿 I’ve always dreamed of having a pet monkey. But Costa Rica keeps reminding me: Why own one when I can simply be welcoming enough for them to come find me? 🐒🌴✨ No cages. No ownership. Just connection. Eventually they disappeared back into the trees, leaving me with a DISGUSTING balcony 😂 and an absolutely beautiful memory. 🌎 THE EARTH IS NOT OURS TO SELL 💸 I came to the base of Volcano Arenal 🌋 looking for nature in her raw, uncut form—and somehow stumbled upon this beautiful waterfall hidden in the jungle. 🌿💧 “ el agua es santa aquí” (the water is holy here) To my utter dismay, there was a construction site 🏗️ right beside it. 💔 They were dumping mud that smelled like sewage. There was clear construction underway as they dug, clawed, and ripped at the Earth. All I could do was sob and bear witness to the base of a treasure being ripped open and rearranged like it belongs to whoever has the money to claim it. I stood there praying over that water, because what else do you do when you’re watching something sacred being destroyed? We keep tearing into this planet, dividing her up like tax collectors, selling her back to whoever will buy—one night at a time—in the form of resorts, hotels, and “paradise.” But paradise was already here. The Earth is not an investment property. She is alive.
