Jeff Cohran, Assistant Professor of Teaching of Music Business, is the music composer of a film that will be shown at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. His music is featured in director Tajana Tokyo’s film “Salone Love,” under the moniker SOUTH MEMPHIS JEFF. The film premiered at the 2023 Indie Memphis Film Festival.

The film’s Sundance screening will coincide with a new EP release from Cohran in Spring 2024, featuring music from the film and unreleased songs.

In addition to serving as the interim area head of music business at the UofM, Cohran is host of the WYXR 91.7 FM show “Funkytown.” He is an established tour and production manager, having worked with artists including Janelle Monáe, EarthGang, Bruno Mars, and Maverick City Music, on major tours, award shows, festivals, and other concerts around the globe.

Congratulations to my mate @tajanatokyo for her short film Salone Love screening at @sundanceorg starting this weekend, with music composed by me, @sthmemphisjeff. Tbh, it’s been surreal wrapping my head around this latest chapter in my musical journey. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without Tajana and my other co-conspirators @tangelamusic, @theeamandarenee, and @reneekarae. These women have given me the energy, encouragement, and confidence that my music is worthy of shoulder shakes, hip thrusts, and artistic/commercial relevance. So, cheers to the gang for the first of hopefully many accolades and opportunities. Also, thanks to the financial support of the good folks at @musicexportmem, I am attending Sundance to share my Memphis music story and rep the city I love dearly. Last thing— since you’re reading this far, I’ll share some advice I’ve learned through this seemingly random, interesting journey: follow whatever your wildest dreams are and they’ll probably come true. Don’t think I forgot the Virgos! Back for another illustration for the Zodiac Nights series, and you know I had to get every detail as perfect as possible with one. Shout out to @hellodjlarry as always for commissioning me do these illustrations.
