Out here with the club kids…who are also changing our world one street at a time. It’s wild. In Montclair we now have bike buses for pretty much every school in town ranging from preschool to middle schools. The kids that just entered 6th grade (middle school) were in second grade when we started bike bus. Some of their younger siblings have been on bike bus before they could walk. It’s not a fad, it’s now part of our town’s culture. And every video seems to influence another person in another part of the world which is why I keep sharing! Our town is making changes too—we’ve hired a complete streets director who is creating amazing prototypes (open streets, bike lanes, colorful crosswalks) and inviting us in as contributors. Change is so possible. And though bike bus for many of us started from a place of anger about the violence of car culture, it’s is manifested as pure joy. Even if this wasn’t about making change it’s just fun to be on a bike with friends and neighbors riding to school together. 💖 taken in Montclair, New Jersey by @iamjet

We’ve gotten so much great media attention that’s helped scale what we do to other communities, but this story hit different. I love how @amandaeusticetv saw our work from the perspective of the toll of traffic. The data is real. Bike infrastructure reduces traffic congestion, calms transportation, and lowers the rate of fatalities on the road. And it’s pretty inexpensive. Bike Bus is really just social infrastructure—honestly a fun bandaid solution—that creates safety as communities wait for transportation infrastructure to catch up with demand! The best party before 9am? Bike Bus! The most radical joy? Bike Bus! A movement not a moment? Bike Bus! Also: We need to start viewing E-Bikes as mobility devices. With two kids that now weigh more than me the little boost from an E-Bike allows me to go 8MPH up a hill without tipping over. With a 50lb speaker on the front of my bike. While leading a group of 50+ kids and adults. Yes I work out (see slide 3) but that’s not the point. The point is accessibility for all bodies and all abilities. E-Bikes make that possible. Thank you @njbikewalk for your advocacy for a better E-Bike law! by @iamjet

Kidical Mass! On Sunday, 500+ people came for the best party in town and stayed because we want safer streets for our families. We thought maybe 200-250 people would want to join, but it was so much more. We haven’t finished counting! A huge thank you to everyone that helped make this ride possible and to our global bike bus community! Not a regular mom—a BIKE BUS mom! They bring the bandaids. They take the lead or make sure no one gets left behind. They pump up the jams and make space for quiet wonder. They are the Mamas of Bike Bus. They have created Bike Buses in Canada, Mexico, Portugal, United States, Scotland, England, Spain, Colombia, Ecuador, Italy, Nigeria, and beyond. This movement is fueled by a network of parents, volunteers, grandparents, neighbors, students, and (sometimes) city leaders. Many of whom are moms, grandmas, or maternal beings. We (you) rock! To Moms who have watched Bike Bus and feel the itch to join us—do it! We want you in this ride. Traen las tiritas. Toman la iniciativa o se aseguran de que nadie se quede atrás. Ponen la música a todo volumen y crean espacio para la tranquila admiración. Son las Mamás del Bike Bus.
