I just celebrated my birthday and found myself looking back on everything I’ve lived, survived, and built. Out of all of it, my only regret is not being in my sons’ lives the way I always intended. That wasn’t about a lack of love. It was about survival. I didn’t grow up with safety or stability; I grew up fighting for everything — a roof, food, peace, even my own sense of worth. Because of that reality, I spent years choosing relationships and environments that felt familiar instead of healthy. That pattern created conflict and stress that eventually collided with a battle that made it nearly impossible for me to be the father I wanted to be. I fought as long as I could, until the fight started breaking me mentally and spiritually. When a man reaches that point, he has to step back to stay sane, or he loses himself completely.

My whole life has been about creating the kind of father I never had — the dad kids brag about when they say “my dad is the strongest.” Mine wasn’t there, for most of my life so I had to build that man from nothing. That path shaped the way I lived and why I pushed myself as hard as I did. And even from a distance, my sons were always a part of that drive.

If you’re reading this my sons — and I hope one day you do — I want you to understand that clarity comes with age, with freedom, and with seeing life through your own eyes instead of anyone else’s. When you have the space to look at life without filters, it becomes much clearer.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you. I still look at old photos and smile — sometimes laugh, sometimes cry — always grateful for the time we had. I prayed for you, I tried calling you for as long as I could until it became pointless, and I have loved you every single day of your lives. So this stands for everything I didn’t get the chance to say: Happy Birthday. Merry Christmas. I’m proud of you. And I love you, always. One of the reasons I left this page up is so I would be easy to find if you ever decide to look for me, so that reaching out would be simple if the day ever comes when you want by @iamjonahyoung

Reflecting on life, friends, family, and loved ones who were taken "too early." Presence is so underrated. Life is over so quickly, even if you live past 100, and it really is a beautiful gift. I've seen people with very little experience profound joy, and people born with vast wealth experience misery, and the constant for those experiences is presence and gratitude. Social media is a mixed bag, but for me what it really is, is a journal of gratitude! If I make a post, what I am really saying is "I am so grateful for this moment." That moment will never happen again, but sharing part of it, freezing a reflection of it in time reminds me how God has blessed me with amazing moments, people, and experiences. Thank you @jasminericayoung for multiplying these amazing moments and bringing more happiness into them! by @iamjonahyoung

How's Asia? It's amazing! I'm turning 49 in December. I don't quite move like I used to, but I've learned some new things to balance out those changes. It isn't true what they say about old dogs, (you can teach them new tricks) and this "old dog" has been doing Martial Arts for more than 4 decades. Sure, the brands and styles have changed along the path, such is life though, change is inevitable. I started Martial Arts at age 5 when my Mom took me to my first Karate class at the YMCA. The rest is history, and making history is on the horizon. I have enjoyed Filipino Martial Arts since 2000, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since I saw the First UFC on VHS with my Dad in 1994 and a ton of other martial arts along the path. Those two, however are somehow rooted in my blood. The past 2 years in Asia have been wild. I have basically crossed off my whole bucket list. So epically grateful for this amazing life! #warriorspath #bjjlifestyle by @iamjonahyoung
