Today is Christmas Day. I don’t celebrate it, but I do honor this moment.

The greatest gift I’m witnessing is my business blossoming and elevating in real time.

When I fully stepped into my power the Universe and my ancestors said YES!

They’ve been confirming my path ever since.

Elevation, they said.

Clear the way, they said.

You put in the work and we’ll do the rest, they said.

I’m going to keep inspiring, motivating, and empowering others on their healing and wellness journeys.

I’m going to keep glowing up out loud and unapologetically. šŸ’‹

Thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, purchased, shared, and believed.
I don’t take any of it lightly.

This season looks good on me. ✨

We came together this past weekend for more than a family reunion. We came together because a man named Scipio Brown made a way.

Our family reunion is centered around the legacy of my fifth great-grandfather, Scipio Brown, a man who obtained his freedom in 1804 which was more than half a century before the Emancipation Proclamation. In a time when freedom was denied to so many of our people, his freedom became part of the foundation upon which generations of our family would build.

From that foundation came educators, farmers and landowners, community leaders, public servants, politicians, businesspeople, and generations of men and women who continued pushing the family forward. They worked the land, educated their, served their communities and built lives that their ancestors could only have imagined.

Today, the descendants of Scipio Brown represent one of the deeply rooted and historically significant Black family networks of Surry County, Virginia. And when you understand the time in which his story began, you understand just how extraordinary that legacy is.

I stood among my family this weekend thinking about all the generations between 1804 and 2026. That’s more than 200 years and we are still here.

It is our responsibility to make sure the generations coming behind us know exactly whose shoulders they stand on.

Scipio Brown made a way and generations later, we are still walking through the doors his freedom helped open.

Day One of the Scipio Brown Family Reunion. šŸ¤Ž

I’m truly sitting on top of the world and taking it all in.

There’s something powerful about being surrounded by family, hearing stories, seeing faces, and continuing to piece together the history of the people who came before me.

This moment means so much to me as we honor the legacy of my fifth great-grandfather, Scipio Brown.Over the years I’ve been gathering our history, preserving it, and carrying it forward so that the generations coming after me will know exactly where and who they come from because you can’t possibly know where you’re going in life if you don’t know where you come from.

The legacy continues. šŸ¤Ž

Since stepping into full-time grandma mode, life has definitely looked a little different. ā¤ļø

One thing I’ve promised myself is that I won’t lose me in the process. Caring for my grandbabies is one of the greatest blessings I’ve ever experienced, but I’ve learned that I have to make time to refill my own cup, too.

So every now and then, I sneak away to do something that brings me joy. This time, that meant a trip to Atlanta and a stop at one of my absolute favorite spots, Tasili’s Raw Reality. If you know, you know! Their wraps never disappoint, and it’s one of those places I look forward to visiting every time I’m in the city.

I also got to catch up with one of my high school friends @stylistaprilb who just so happens to be my loctician every now and then. There’s something special about reconnecting with people who’ve known you through different seasons of life. We laughed, caught up, and for a little while, life slowed down.

These days have taught me that self-care doesn’t always have to be elaborate. Sometimes it’s a favorite meal, a road trip, good conversation, or simply stepping away long enough to breathe and remember who you are outside of your responsibilities.

I’m incredibly grateful for this season of my life, even the challenging parts. And I’m learning that taking care of myself isn’t taking away from the people I love—it’s helping me show up as the best version of myself for them.

Atlanta was just what I needed. šŸ’œ

Life has looked very different for me these past few months.

Right around the time I expanded Good Karma Botanica & Wellness and stepped into a new season with my business, life asked me to step into another role I never expected so suddenly and that’s becoming a full-time caregiver to my grandchildren.

If I’m being transparent, this transition has been one of the hardest seasons of my life. There have been days when it felt like I cried for months straight. I was grieving the life I thought I would be living while trying to adjust to the life that was placed in front of me.

Balancing a growing business, caring for two little ones 24/7, trying to pour into my community, and still finding moments to care for myself hasn’t been easy. There have been days of exhaustion, uncertainty, and wondering how I was going to make it all work.

But in the middle of all of that… there has been so much love.

Tiny hugs. Belly laughs. Bedtime cuddles. Watching firsts. Hearing little voices call for me. Dancing in the kitchen. The kind of joy that reminds you what really matters.

These babies have stretched me in ways I never imagined, but they’ve also softened me. They’ve reminded me that sometimes our purpose doesn’t arrive wrapped in convenience. Sometimes it arrives wrapped in little arms.

So if you’ve wondered why I’ve been a little quieter, why some plans changed, have been cancelled , or why you’ve seen me moving differently… this is why.

I’m still building. I’m still healing. I’m still creating. I’m still serving my community. I’m just doing it with two little blessings by my side.

Thank you to everyone who has checked on me, supported my business, prayed for me, and shown me grace during this season. I don’t take any of it for granted.

Life may not have unfolded the way I planned, but I’m learning that some of the most beautiful chapters are the ones we never saw coming.

Welcome to this part of my journey. šŸ’œ

Sometimes we think the love, safety, and validation we need has to come from external sources.

Healing teaches us that what we have been searching for has been within us all along.

You are loved even when the world does not tell you.

You are loved, even when choosing yourself makes life feel a little quieter.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Be gentle with yourself.

Be kind to others and know that you are loved.

I have been moving quietly, but I have not been standing still.

There are some things I have been working on in the background that are very close to my heart. Some dreams need silence before they need an announcement. Some visions need prayer, planning, protection, and patience before everybody gets to see them.

In this season, I have shared less. I have been seen less. I have been a little quieter than usual, but please know that I am still working. I am still building. I am still becoming. I am still listening to what God, my ancestors, and my own spirit are showing me.

Everything does not have to be posted to be powerful. Everything does not have to be explained to be intentional. Sometimes the most meaningful work happens behind the scenes, when nobody is clapping, watching, or asking what is next.

Slow motion is better than no motion.

Sometimes healing looks like allowing yourself to step outside of grief long enough to breathe, laugh, dance, and remember that joy is still allowed.

Last weekend, I gave myself permission to leave everything I had going on in Charlotte and go to the Anthony Hamilton concert in Greensboro with one of my best sister friends @natural4me . We went out, had a beautiful time, and for a few hours, I allowed myself to simply be present.

And let me tell you, Fantasia won me all the way over. I have always liked her, but this concert made me a true fan. For the first time ever, I took my shoes off in a coliseum and danced like I was at home in my living room. I shook everything I had and woke up sore the next day, but my spirit needed every bit of it.

I am thankful for good friends, sister friends, safe spaces, music that reaches the soul, and moments that remind us that grief does not get to take every part of our lives.

And of course, I am always thankful for one of the coolest humans on earth, Anthony Hamilton. His music has a way of reminding you that life is still full of beauty.

This Mother’s Day, we are holding space for every version of motherhood, every complicated feeling, every quiet grief, and every heart that may need a little extra tenderness today.

We honor mothers everywhere. We honor those who mother without recognition. We honor those grieving, those longing, those healing, those nurturing, and those navigating relationships that are not always simple.

Mother’s Day can be beautiful, but it can also be heavy. So today and all other days, may we be compassionate, graceful, and understanding.

Wherever you are on this journey, you are seen. You are loved.
