Understanding my mother’s origin story isn’t meant to excuse or minimize the pain she caused. It’s a vital step toward unraveling unconventional grief and recognizing that she, too, was a casualty of a broken system. In recognizing that truth, my heart shifted from cold and apathetic to empathetic and compassionate. Grieving my mother began long before she passed away. I just didn’t realize that was happening until after. By the time I got over myself enough to learn to love her, it was too late. My relationship with my mom was not perfect. We were pretty much estranged when she passed, and that is a complicated kind of grief most people do not talk about. A deeper perspective on the story behind the brand… Here’s a tense truth: God commands us to honor our mother and father (regardless of how they did [or did not] parent us). I rarely outright disrespected my mother BUT I disregarded her, I spoke ill of her, I refused to extend mercy to her … all in the name of “justified entitlement.” I thought that by tolerating my mom on Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving & Christmas I was “honoring” her. God flat out told me that was NOT honoring. By dishonoring my mother I was shortening my life. Here’s the good news, “Honor doesn’t have an expiration date!” 🙌🏾 God in his mercy towards me gave me another chance to honor my mother. MEW Beauty is more than a brand, it is a redemptive work that is literally redeeming the days of my life! I have repented for being a dishonorable daughter, fully forgiven my mother, and I have been reconciled back to righteousness. And now I have discovered a profound love for my mother. 🥹🩷 My only wish is that I could have gotten to this point before she died. The wait was never punishment, rather it was God’s grace to allow you to be prepared in private, processed in private, pruned in private, and positioned in private. The wait saved you from public embarrassment while your character was being refined. It saved you from unnecessary heartbreak while your mind was being renewed. The wait saved you from public scrutiny that would require your reputation to be rebuilt. The wait was expanding your capacity, expunging your carnality, and allowing certain conformity bents to expire. The wait was clearing out the things about you that cannot go where God is taking you. The wait was to breed humility, to bring about a version of you that only patience can accomplish, to broaden wisdom and understanding, and build up your indentity in Christ. If God gave you what you wanted before the processing and pruning you would have crumbled under the pressure and persecution because your character would not have been strong enough to withstand it. When you’re in transition and God is processing you for your next season life can sometimes feel unstable, unsettling, and uncomfortable. In those moments we have two choices: 1. Try to take control and create stability and normalcy. 2. Ride the wave trusting that God has you in his hands. It all boils down to one simple statement, “Either you believe the word of God or you don’t.” Your choice determines whether or not you believe‼️ For me, this season has been filled with vagueness, discomfort and a lack of certainty. BUT I trust God completely even when I can’t see him moving. I know I am being prepared to be propelled into another level of purpose. Prayers that require a different version of me are about to be answered because I have capitulated to the Lord’s process. 🙌🏾🙌🏾 Waiting for what’s next isn’t passive, it’s waiting in expectation and preparation for what God is going to do.
