During the institutionalisation of slavery in the west of the world Africans were forbid to read and write. Current statistics suggest young boys of African diaspora are the least to reach expected reading levels. Is there any connection? Reading is freedom. I have a goal to get 10,000 boys to read a book that proves their potential is limitless. If we share that vision please like and share this post. #reading is #freedom #knowledge is #power by @iamkingkimba

My new book Shades of Black is available to purchase from my website shampooyourpoetry.com or on any upcoming school visit.

Shades of Black (Caboodle Books) is a contemporary coming-of-age novel for readers aged 14+, exploring identity, race, resilience, belonging, and personal accountability through the experiences of a young protagonist navigating difficult real-world pressures.

I’ve written this book with accessibility and engagement in mind, and the aim of connecting with older teens — particularly reluctant readers — through a fast-moving, emotionally grounded narrative.

I’m very excited to be bringing it to classrooms around the UK in the weeks and months to follow, and would love to hear your feedback!

If you don’t already have a visit booked, please visit my website to find out more about interactive whole school assemblies, small classroom workshops or online sessions: shampooyourpoetry.com

Over the last year, I’ve been busy!… An abundance of amazing school visits have played a large part in this, but behind the scenes, I’ve been putting pen to paper as well, produce a piece of work close to my own heart. My latest book, Shades of Black, is a coming-of-age novel, a piece of literature that I would have loved to have been given to read as a teenager. It explores race, resilience, belonging and personal accountability in a creative way, designed to captivate a young reader - Those who love to read, and those who disengage and find it a challenge.

In the upcoming weeks and months I will continue to visit schools around the UK (and the world), and I would love and opportunity to share it with you.

To find out more, or to enquire about a visit if you don’t already have one lined up, please visit my new website, dedicated to schools: shampooyourpoetry.com
