It’s homecoming season 🐻 , and last night’s Baltimore Ravens cheerleading alumni event brought me right back to Morgan State.

We laughed, celebrated, and went down memory lane. But on the ride home, I felt something deeper: so many of the Black and Brown women and men in that space were fellow Morgan State cheerleaders. That meant something.

In a space where we weren’t always widely represented, our coaches made sure we could see ourselves there. They always set the bar high…a back handspring, a back tuck, stronger jumps, better shakes (me biggest issue) and expected us to believe we could reach it.

Sometimes the expectations were a little too ambitious… like losing 5 lbs and fitting into that little skirt by Saturday’s game. But looking back, I understand the intentionality behind how they prepared us, challenged us, and exposed us to opportunities we hadn’t even imagined.

Before Morgan, my view of professional cheerleading was mostly what I saw on TV. Our coaches showed us the athleticism, discipline, and skill behind it and helped us see that we could belong in that world, too.

Now I’m always telling my kids, “You don’t have a ceiling.” Last night reminded me of one of the places where that belief was planted in me.

So grateful for Morgan, the sisterhood, and the coaches who saw possibilities for us before we could see them for ourselves. We got to share that space last night because somebody first opened the door. 🧡💙💜🖤 @lcfny @nikkijoe4 @msugt17 @la_kisha_davis by @iamkini_hawk

We celebrated my BFF’s @iamkini_hawk birthday at Kitchen + Cocktails, and the entire brunch experience was a vibe!

From Paris ✈️ to From Breakthrough to the Bank Brunch… and what an amazing way to continue celebrating my birthday. 🥹❤️

Today, I received another birthday gift I didn’t even know I needed—the blessing of watching my BFF stand on that stage as the keynote speaker.

Whewww… I have a knot in my throat just writing this because I can feel the ugly cry coming. 😭

There is something so special about witnessing someone you love pursue her dream, walk in her purpose, and change lives while doing it. To watch the vision, the work, the prayers, and the perseverance come together right in front of you… what a blessing.

BFF, I am SO incredibly proud of you. ❤️

Paris was beautiful, but coming home and getting to witness this? Another beautiful reminder that some of the best gifts aren’t things at all—they’re moments you get to experience with the people you love. @tootsterj @wealthbuildinglab

Happy Birthday to my 1st born! Watching you is like watching my heartbeat outside of my body. They say the best things in life are free, and becoming your mom has been one of the greatest gift I’ve ever received.

Watching you grow into the man you’re becoming has been one of the greatest honors of my life. My prayers for you have never been about perfection, but for purpose, peace, protection, genuine love, and knowing your worth. I thank God every day for choosing me to be your mom and for allowing me to witness your journey.
