Enjoy a special #NationalBookLoversDay message from Dina's son, author and advocate Lee Wind (@iamleewind):

Books are magic 📚️✨️

I knew it as a kid, hiding under the covers with a flashlight and reading long past my bedtime.

I knew it as a teen, searching for any reflection of myself in the science fiction and fantasy books I was obsessed with, and finding nobody Gay, nobody the Jewish child of immigrants, nobody who felt like “me.”

And yet, through books I got to inhabit so many other lives. Lessa and Jaxom and Menolly riding dragons and taming fire lizards in Anne McCaffrey’s books "Dragonflight", "Dragonsinger", and "The White Dragon". Paul leading a rebellion in Frank Herbert’s book, "Dune". Even Margaret, talking to God in Judy Blume’s "Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret".

As an adult, I’ve been fortunate to write my own books (with nine published as of writing this.) They always include some Gay and/or Jewish and/or social justice-themed representation I craved so much as a kid and teen. A reflection that would have changed my life back then.

There’s a healing power in creating worlds and characters, like my Gay teen heroes Sam and Nico who are living a spy adventure that riffs on James Bond movies in the heightened reality of "A Different Kind of Brave" and "A Different Kind of Enemy". Hearing from readers that they’re loving the roller coaster ride, and the characters, is pretty amazing.

And I’m still reading books for kids and teens - though now there’s lots more diverse representation! I’ve loved feeling like I was right there with A, the Trans hero of Kyle Lukoff’s "A World Worth Saving", a story full of Jewish mysticism. And right there with Maeve who becomes an activist to stop bullying in her school in Kelly Mangan’s "Maeve Mulvaney Has Had Enough". And right there with Jaime and Andrew as they journeyed to find somewhere safe in Erik J. Brown’s post-apocalyptic world of "All That’s Left In the World."

So this National Book Lover’s Day, give yourself some of that book magic. Share some of that book magic.

And together, we can read...and with the magic of books, make our world a better place 🌍️🌈 by @iamleewind

NEW PUBLICATION - A Different Kind of Enemy by Lee Wind (@iamleewind) 📗 🌈

Just in time for pride month, we are excited to announce the latest addition to the Wind family library, "A Different Kind of Enemy" the newest novel by Dina's son, author and advocate Lee Wind

This book is the second installment in the "Different Kind" series, a gay teen action adventure romance inspired by James Bond. The novel, along with Lee's other publications, are all available for sale through the foundation's website, link in bio ~

About the book:

Gay Teens Save the World

In a society that says only straight people can be action stars and romantic leads, Gay teens rarely get the chance to see themselves as the heroes of their favorite stories. Author Lee Wind knows how much that sucks, having felt it himself as a closeted Gay teen.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF ENEMY is a Gay teen action-adventure romance where rookie spies Sam and Nico race to save the world from the threat of alien invasion—while at the same time fighting to save their own relationship.

This Queer homage to and critique of James Bond movies will help redefine what being a hero can look like. Read Sam and Nico’s next adventure and feel like you can save the world and get the guy (even if you’re a guy) too!
