POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s wild how some things from the past can pop back into the zeitgeist and make you feel all the emotions from the decades prior.
This had and has me spiralling.
I was a new to Canada comic.
Left my motherland of Trinidad to chase this standup dream. Got into a crew of like minded, similar backgrounds group of comedian wannabes. As a transplant, it became my core friends. I had left mine in the islands so of course I dropped in hard.
I had a young family dependent on me.
Wife and first child.
Making a name for myself in a hard to thrive Canadian showbiz vocation.
Touring Canada, US, UK, Comedy Network, BET appearances … all popping off.
Comedy was working for me. I was happy.
Then when my material was called into question because another comic, from the crew… the same crew I was rolling to venues with, was using my material. I didn’t confront him. I felt I had no support group to fall back on. I didn’t have the same depth of friendship he did, and he was the more established and touring comic. I shadowed myself. Kept my immigrant self quiet.
Booking agents told me I was a hack for doing his material. MY material.
Mentally it hurt more because it was material about MY kid. MY real life experience. He didn’t even have kids at the time.
Bookings disappeared. Not all … but a whisper campaign began to spread. I couldn’t make the leaps necessary to escape the need to have the ‘day job’. Not because of the talent but because the small industry had a sniff of a stigmata.
I hired myself. Built my own. Booked myself.
Because I love this artform. I love creating and the creatives involved in it. I commune with them, I hire them and I council them. They are my tribe.
But I’ll hold my grudge.
Relationships once fostered, have now suffered … because in this industry the mark of a #jokethief is a hard one to shake.
I have never changed my story.
Thankfully neither did @ginayashere because her voice is louder than my two decades whispers.
I sleep well at night because I sleep with my wife, my weed and my integrity.
I don’t fault those who speak privately to me because they know. But I do wish they spoke publicly. Because they do kn by @iammarctrinidad

I’ll never be afraid of showing #appreciation
Neither should you.
I’ve had @arielhelwani in my ear for years (through some really dark times, they literally were my comfort food) I’ve seen his podcasts grow and blossom into the @uncrowned network. And now @connerburks and @newyorkric are crushing the Boys in the Back podcast with @mysteriousfrank
Let me not forget the great landscaping talent from IRIE Land ☘️ @petesycarroll
Combine my love and admiration for them all with my love and adoration of @geekyjerseys and VOILA.
I took the opportunity to show my gratitude now because Ariel speaks frequently of his love of @adamsandler and Happy Gilmore. So yah… with the sequel to the movie coming out, the timing could not have been more perfect. I took my shot.

#windsor shares the love of #standupcomedy 😁 by @iammarctrinidad

I’m humbled and grateful for the career I’ve worked at for the past four decades. In my travels I’ve continued what started me on my comedic journey, an insatiable curiosity and a desire to make everyone I come in contact with, have a great time.
I’ve entered the Top Host competition to help bring my vision of a travelling podcast, to life. And you, can help me get there.
I again, with humility, ask for your support.
👊🏽Vote for your boy 😁
