When I arrived at this place, I was deeply dysregulated fearful, uncertain, and constantly looking outside myself for answers. All along, the answers were already within me.

I’m learning that life isn’t linear: it’s a spiral. We encounter new lessons and challenges, yet somehow, the journey always leads us back to ourselves. Looking back, it feels beautifully symbolic that the path presented to me at the beginning of this retreat was shaped like a spiral. I didn’t understand its meaning then, but I do now.

Shambalante taught me that no matter what is happening around me, I can always return inward and find peace. That is what this place represents to me: quietness, stillness, and the reminder that even when life feels chaotic on the outside, we can create calm within.

It also taught me to appreciate my own island more the nature, beauty, and peace that are so easy to find here on Sint Maarten.

It’s easy to search everywhere else for answers, only to discover that they’ve been inside us all along. I had to travel all the way there to realize that.
