Meet Beatres Kachema, a Solar Sister Entrepreneur in Tanzania.

When Beatres joined Solar Sister in 2018, she rarely ventured far from home. Today, she runs a clean energy business, has started a second business selling freshly fried fish and bananas, and has become a familiar face in her community.

The business skills Beatres learned through Solar Sister helped her evaluate the costs and potential profits before starting her fish-frying business. That confidence has carried forward in another important way: Beatres now recruits and mentors other women interested in becoming entrepreneurs.

“My life has turned since I became a Solar Sister Entrepreneur. I've had the opportunity to meet countless people, and now, I'm a familiar face in the community.”

More products can mean more opportunities for Solar Sister Entrepreneurs.

Introducing new clean energy products gives entrepreneurs more options to offer customers and helps them meet different energy needs in their communities. Sisterhood meetings are an important place to introduce these products, giving women a chance to see how they work, ask questions, and learn how to demonstrate them to customers.

Near Jos, Nigeria, Business Development Associates Manmak Joshua and Mercy Inashi demonstrate a new solar product during a recent Sisterhood meeting.

Most women who join Solar Sister learn they can do more for themselves, their families, and their communities. It begins with a realization; then, gradually, change follows.

Fadimatu Salihu is one entrepreneur who was a full-time housewife before she joined Solar Sister. She moved from depending on one income to contributing to her family. Fadimatu says she has gained confidence in herself and is proud to be a wage earner. 🙌🏾

Susanna was one of the first women in her area to join Solar Sister. It was a simple decision, but one that Susanna hoped would help her address some of the challenges she was facing.

Before joining Solar Sister, Susanna relied on livestock for income, selling milk or, when necessary, one of the family’s cows or goats. About four years ago, her husband left, leaving Susanna to support their five children.

A year later, while attending a women’s group, she heard about Solar Sister. With five children depending on her, Susanna was looking for a way to improve her situation and earn a more reliable income. She decided to try Solar Sister.

For Susanna, that decision opened up a new way forward.

Mazingira Day is an annual national public holiday in Kenya celebrated on October 10, dedicated to environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and sustainable living.
Mazingira means "environment" in Kiswahili, covering inhabited spaces, air, natural systems, and shared values.
The 2026 Theme: “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship”.
This theme supports Kenya's broader campaign to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

Solar Sister entrepreneurs work daily to mitigate the effects of climate change. 💥To date, we have mitigated 2.3 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions!

We continue celebrating our entreprenuers because women think about their families, fellow women, and their communities when they find an opportunity that affects them. They share opportunities and create a multiplier effect wherever they go.

Women are trusted members of their communities and often understand local energy needs firsthand.

By investing in women entrepreneurs, Solar Sister expands access to clean energy while creating sustainable economic opportunities that benefit families and communities.

Happy Customer Service Week to all our women entrepreneurs and their customers.

September’s training module focused on Everyday Sales Excellence and Customer Care.

Entrepreneurs explored how strong customer service goes beyond making a sale. They learned how honesty, trust, and continued support can strengthen customer relationships, build loyalty, and encourage repeat business.

The training helped shift the focus toward understanding and supporting customers as an important part of building a successful business.

This past month, we have shared stories about our women entrepreneurs' courage and grit and how they have shown it in different ways and impacted their families and communities.

That grit shows up as determination. Determination turns into action for their families, their businesses, and their communities.

Like many Solar Sister Entrepreneurs, Taibat Zakariyah, an SSE in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, is planning for her children’s future. One of the first things women often do when they begin earning their own income is invest in their children, and especially in their education.

At Solar Sister, we’re proud to see how women’s clean energy businesses can create opportunities that reach the next generation.
