i tried the princess cake from trader joe’s...

spoiler: it’s not good! is it the worst thing? no. would i recommend buying it? no. it’s only $7.99, but there are much better things there you can get for that and less. and i would much prefer to pay $8 for a slice of a good cake than a whole mid cake.

also, they recommend defrosting in the fridge for 6-7 (is that joke over? it is, right?) hours. i did almost 9, and it was still frozen. so....shoutout to my GE fridge for keeping stuff cold?? i left the piece out to defrost on the counter and it turned into more of a piece of cake but still not what i’d like in a princess cake.

anyway, the hype is hype and it’s not good. the end. by @iamsprung

did you know what Springerle were? me either! but now i do, and they are a labor of love! i came up with my own way to make sure to get the perfect relief of the image on the cookie- because that’s really the show stopping part, after all!

bts of making a cookie cookbook 🍪📖

a ton of cookies were made, but let’s start with these people cookies- a little tip, if you need to sprinkle sugar on the cookie dough, but it’s not sticky enough, you can use a little damp paper towel to moisten them so the sugar will adhere before you bake them.

today was a cinnamon roll kinda day 🌀

this nor’easter made for a rainy weekend mostly stuck inside (except for all the times i had to take my dog out, who absolutely hated it). i baked a couple things yesterday and remembered i had saved this viral Cinnabon copy cat recipe from @mazerlazer_ what feels like ages ago.

and so, today was the day- and i gotta say, it’s a good one. and i’d love to eat the whole tray by myself, but packed a bunch up and gave them to my neighbors. it’s a cinnamon roll kinda day, after all.

let’s take Munchkin out for a borough break!

a borough break is literally taking a shelter dog out for a break! it can be an hour, a few, or a whole day (it will depend on the guidance from the shelter and dog, along with whatever availability you have).

if you’re in NYC, any of the @nycacc offer these borough breaks, you can just go on to their site to find out more info- it’s really a great way to decompress the dogs too, when they’re in the shelter all day (and right now, and often times, over capacity and some dogs are in pop-up crates, since they don’t turn any animals away and want to be able to give them care and the chance for a new lease on life and forever home!).

In honor of National Pancake Day on September 26 (yes, there are other pancake days, just more opportunities to celebrate!), it was only necessary to serve up an encore with this episode!

In this episode of @sprungonfood, @thepancakeprincess joins to discuss the history of pancakes.
