I started writing stories in high school, and although I knew my stories were getting better, I didn't even think of entering any kind of writing competition until a year ago.

Why? I was afraid they were not good enough.

Well, my first ever competition submission got me on the Longlist of the @commonwealthorg Short Story Prize last year (among the top 200 writers in a pool of 6700+ across 50+ countries). My third submission won a Merit Award in the @jcdcjamaica Literary Competition this year.

Moral of the story: Don't let fear hold you back. Work on your craft and believe in yourself.

Doing meaningful work is the biggest flex in the whole wide world!

I've been working with a non-profit organization called @speechandscholarsorg and this week we executed our first initiative aimed at increasing services and educational opportunities for children with autism.

It was a one-week speech pathology workshop where licensed speech language pathologists (SLPs) came and donated their time and expertise to share teaching techniques with local special educators. Phenomenal doesn't begin to describe the outcomes!

We wrapped things up with a closing ceremony on Friday, with many participants clamoring for more opportunities to benefit from this kind of expertise.

It was a hectic week, doubling (and sometimes tripling) as board member, PR and communications lead, workshop support team, then MC... but definitely rewarding.

Aberdeen High valedictorian Akayla Simpson, 17, graduated with 16 subjects, several top scores and a $100,000 scholarship for topping CSEC Home Economics. Now a student at The Mico University College, Akayla hopes to become a teacher.

Akayla and Stacy-Ann Smith, Author and Chief Executive Officer of Danrak Productions, stopped by to talk about her achievement and the Carl Williams Home Economics Scholarship, which was conceptualised by Smith in honour of her late father.

I'm still on top of the world after Monday's launch of the education initiative I named for my dad. The Carl Williams Prize for Home Economics is a fitting tribute to a man who showed love by serving others.

He taught us to show up for others, and as a family, we do. I've been most fortunate to have not just family but good friends and colleagues who show up for me constantly.

Having a strong community is a key element to your well-being. In #TimeDoesNotHeal I share how the people in my life loved me back to a place of peace and wellness.

Blessed to be a blessing!

So happy to partner with @wisynco to bring the Carl Williams Prize for Home Economics to life. The inaugural recipient, Miss Akayla Simpson, is a most deserving young scholar with 16 CSEC subjects, 2 CAPE and 2 City and Guilds. Akayla is an example of the amazing job that Aberdeen High School is doing.

Five years ago I published #TimeDoesNotHeal sharing parts of my journey for the sole purpose of encouraging people to be deliberate and intentional about their emotional and mental well-being.

Opening up your life and sharing your lowest moments is a different level of vulnerable. But the flip side is that it allows you to connect, in a real way, with people who feel safer to share their own stories.

The #TimeDoesNotHeal audiobook goes live on @getodiyo today - my story, my words, my voice.

Writing the book was cathartic. I knew recording it would be just as emotional.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to share and it is my hope that the message will reach even more people - Time alone does not heal. It's what you DO with the time that makes the difference. by @iamstacyannsmith

Look what the Lord has done!

Pastor Dr. Rowan Wade has finally published a book of prayers for women.

I have been richly blessed by this man of God. If you've read my book, #TimeDoesNotHeal you would have seen my reference to our community pastor (at the time) who took up the mantle of praying for me every Monday, after my father died suddenly in 2019. Daddy used to pray and fast for me and my siblings every Monday. When he died, Pastor Wade stepped up and stood in the gap, faithfully praying over my family. I give thanks for him and his amazing wife @marshawademovement

Pastor Wade has now published a book of prayers for women, which I KNOW will bless others.

What's even more heartwarming is the fact that this is a dream realized for Pastor Wade. Imagine being voted least likely to succeed then building a solid career in corporate, establishing your own ministry and reputation for leadership, to now becoming a published author. God is good!
